Visalia, Calif. A Mormon church official was shot dead between services on Sunday, and less than an hour later, the man suspected of the crime also died after a shootout with police.
Clay Sannar, 42, a lay bishop with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Visalia, southeast of Fresno, died after being shot in his office, said Visalia police chief Colleen Mestas.
Soon after the first shooting, a caller identified himself to police as the shooter. Police responded, and there was a confrontation with several shots exchanged, said Mestas.
The suspect was hit multiple times. He was taken to nearby Kaweah Delta Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He has not been identified yet. No officers were injured, Mestas said.
Tulare County sheriffs deputies are taking over the investigation of the shootout involving the police officers. The sheriffs department did not immediately return calls for comment.
Visalia police continue to investigate Sannars shooting, but have not identified a motive.

Prove this idiotic statement.
I feel sorry for you....
BTW, I don’t paint all Christian folks who disagree w/ Mormon doctrine as Christian Jihadists. Most Christians here are great folks & walk the walk of a Christian. Some of my best friends are non-members & we have some very lively discussions. But w/ those Christians, it never gets vitriolic as it does here w/ the anti’s/Christian Jihadists. They practice what they preach.
Big, BIG difference. As I’ve stated in the past, the Christian Jihadists are a very, very small minority here, albeit they’re the most vocal.
Well, in my family those who have left have not been treated kindly. Those who have remind have been advised to not have any contact with the family members who have left.
Are his father and brother members of the cult?
Bearing false witness is......what?
Give some examples of frothing at the mouth.
Will you? Can you?
You think I hate you? I pity you. I do hate anything that is a perversion of the Gospel. And mormonism is just that. I don't hate you. I hate what you've become.
If you think I'm frothing at the mouth right now....I again pity you. I love you...and want you to see the light.
FRegards,
Exactly how can you back up that statement? Source? Link? Shunning is abusive whether it is approved by the mormon leaders or is done at the members' own discretion. Do you claim to be a psychologist as well as a lawyer?
This man obviously felt abused badly to go to the extreme that he did. Whether you approve of his motive is of no consequence. It caused two deaths which I deplore.
I hope you keep posting in this vein, so that more and more of the FReepers who think mormons are "just the NICEST people" can see the venomous hate dripping from your keyboard.
Stuns me too, that I guessed it, but it happens more often than not:
Some one who was hurt, either for real or emotional, goes psycho on those who represent that organization or person who hurt them
workplace, churches, it is the same thing
But for Lady Lawyer to actually say it is a FREEPER...that was just so low class.
Oh, yes, the standard old, unsubstantiated charge. As a lawyer who is "confident that she isn't an idiot", I would expect that you can see the distinction, because it is not hard to understand. Flying Inmans do NOT hate MormonS, we hate MormonISM. As the Apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 6:12, we contend not against flesh and blood (the Mormon people) but against powers and principalities (the institution of Mormonism).
Why would we hate Mormons when we view them as victims of an evil system? Do I feel compassion for the widow and her small sons? Yes. I prayed for them today during my lunch hour that God would give them comfort during these times. Of course, I also prayed that their eyes be opened about Mormonism.
Good question. There have been several here on FR that have lauded the massacre of Mormons & Gov. Boggs extermination order of Mormons in the 1800s, saying it was justified.
Its a shame, but Im quite certain there are some Christian Jahadists here applauding this guys actions. A VERY small minority for sure, but despicably vocal.
How long before they show up here?
*****
Its like a time warp we keep looking at scars and than like Lots wife we keep looking back it is futile and a dead end.
If we as a people don’t start finding our common ground and practice loving one another we will be doom!
It is so easy to get caught up in the moment or read something that pushes you buttons but we must now move away from the negative programing.
Several post I wanted to respond in kind but the Lord help to to choose a better way....
I pray I will remember to stop and wait on His counsel.
If it was meant as a sarcastic joke, she has had plenty of opportunity to LOUDLY retract the statement.
With the utter hated you folks often display for Mormons
See post 189.
So, post the link so everyone can read the article.
I think it's interesting that you emphasize that the man DEMANDED that his name be removed, as though it is something that ties in to his being beyond the pale. How typical of your belief of mormonism...leaving the mormon church is an unforgiveable sin.
Once professing belief in the Mormon doctrine, they subsequently rejected Mormonism. They are called apostates or sons of perdition. They too will be resurrected but many, if not all, will be sent to Outer Darkness. (Outer Darkness is the name Mormonism gives to the domain of Satan and his legions.) These apostates are the only people sent to eternal existence with the devil. In speaking of Outer Darkness, the original Mormon prophet Joseph Smith said This is the case with many apostates of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (quoted in Doctrine and Covenants Student Manual, p. 358).
Visalia police identified the man who they say shot and killed Sannar on Monday morning. He is identified as 47-year-old Kenneth James Ward of Modesto, Calif.

That's what you posted to LL's comment....
Doesn't seem like sarcasm to me....Seems like you TOTALLY agreed with her question. You in fact called it "Good".
One could certainly think that you yourself have utter hatred for anyone who questions mormonism. Personally....I think you screwed up..and showed your colors..once again.
I've seen this over and over...I also think...many mormon's ( maybe even you...) have questions about mormonism..and are just lashing out at those that are making you think.
“Have you folks really forgotten the discussions re: the Hauns Mill massacre, the murder of the prophet Joseph Smith, the Governor Boggs extermination orders, etc.. Really?”
Reno, you talk big, but never deliver on these threads. You slime others by innuendo, but never share actual facts.
Who advocated or supported murder? Where? Name names.
“Im in the process of a week long anniversary celebration w/ my wife. Thought I would check in & see whats going on. Its always good for a good giggle.”
It is consistent with you “going problem” - post innuendo and run. You do it consistently.
How about manning up and delivering for a change?
How poetic

An assertion without fact.
Name names. Show posts that “hate Mormons”.
In law school, I know they must have distinguished between assertion and opinion and fact. Your posts have been devoid of fact and long on opinion on this thread.
The massacre put a stain on the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,
but a reconciliation between some descendants and the church appears to be taking hold.

Let the healing continue!
Like the Gunman killed inside Tennessee high school story, they both had multiple encounters with law enforcement for years before they escalated to armed assault and suicide by police.
