Highlights from Scott victory speech
Palm Beach Post ^ | August 25, 2010 | Andrew Abramson

Believe it or not, Rick Scott is your Republican nominee for Florida governor.

Here are some highlights from his victory speech tonight in Ft. Lauderdale:

“Remember me, the handsome bald guy? With a deep sense of humility, I’m here tonight to accept the Republican nomination for the office of governor of our great state of Florida.”

“The Republican party will come together, and the reason we will come together is our shared devotion to values that make America great.”

“Voters took a chance on me today. They know I’m not a politician. I didn’t come up through the political ranks. They know it was not my turn to be governor. But the voters also know this, that our state and our nation have been headed in the wrong direction for quite a while. People know that government cannot continue to expand, cannot continue to spend more than you make, cannot keep piling up record debt each and every year. It’s a mistake.”

Getting Greer and Crist’s people out of the FLRNC was the best thing for our State. There will be plenty of infighting and deal making with establishment GOP’rs trying to keep their power and influence but the people are making their opinion known.

I’m not happy about Scott, but I will support him. If he’s able to cause more shakeups within the FLRNC, more power to him. In the end rational heads will prevail. We’ll come together to support Scott if only to assure we do not have a pro-obama governor.

McCollum is not a bad guy, he’s simply a career politician and people are sick of the same old thing.

Career politicians do have their advantages. Scott says all the right things, he takes the right positions and presents himself as an outsider Conservative who will not go with the status quo. We have no record to look at to see if he is all he’s claiming to be. We had that with McCollum.

I finally went with McCollum simply because I knew where he was going to screw me, which positions I’d have to stay on him about and where he would be good. Not having that with Scott combined with his background was a concern.

I’m all for new blood in office and within leadership positions, but new blood can also give us Obama’s (no, Scott isn’t Obama) a legitimate concern and reason why when given the choice between two evils, many are opting to vote for the career politician; right or wrong.

the FL GOP insiders are ticked that their stooge did not win.

Scott is at least a real conservative and will fight Obamacare in FL. Mitch would have folded once the GOP insiders told him to.

Sad the primary was so ugly.

I will do the same. There are plenty of republicans that will not vote for a White Collar criminal, thief, and someone who plead the firth 75 times in one deposition. Slick Rick needs all Republicans in a state where they are not the majority. He will not get them because no decent, honorable Republican would knowingly vote for a Criminal. Alex Sink will be the next Governor because she might be a dirty Democrat, but at least she is not a dirty crook.

You sure about that? All I know, living here in Florida, is that he spent a lot of money to run a slick campaign. Kind of nasty, too. I guess time will tell.

Florida GOP wanted Charlie Crist to be Senator and McCollum to be governor. Although McCollum is not a bad guy (is a conservative on most issues), and no where near the weasel that Crist is, those were the big establishment candidates.

If you want someone to blame for why McCain won the 2008 Florida presidential primary...you can blame that Tallahassee GOP establishment that is facing a voter revolt right now. They are going to be pissed because now McCollum is out and Crist is down in the polls at the moment. There is some Republican infighting going on here. And that’s why these races are turning so negative, and sure the Dems will try to capitalize off it. But you got to clean the attic somehow.

As for Scott, he is a political outsider. He funded his campaign mainly with his own money and isnt owned by special interests. But he does have some baggage with the Columbia/HCR scandal the Democrats will no doubt slam him on.
In the end, the fact that Obama’s popularity is bad in Florida, Republican voters will likely have a huge turnout in November, and Scott has a good ground campaign and financial advantage over Sink....Scott should squeek out a win.

If the McCollum voters go and vote for Sink like some on here are claiming they will do. They are idiots and probably arnt real Republicans anyway. Sink is pro-Obama. She’s pro-Obamacare. And she’s in favor of open borders. She’s also had her hands in the real estate cookie jar when she was with Bank of America. Any Republican that votes for that is not a conservative. But there are idiot Republicans in this state.

Peddling more Dem party astroturf for Sink ?

GET YOUR facts STRAIGHT HERE before you call anyone a crook.

Scott was attacked by Janet Reno for his role in killing Hillarycare . The Clinton went after all healthcare companies for medicare fraud because it scared old people and suckers like you and makes big headlines .

HCA settled with the Reno JD because the stockholders want to push thru merger .

I hope you’re not correct and people simply hold their noses and vote for Scott.

We can NOT have Sink as Governor. She’s on record supporting Obama-care, has said she will order an end to the Fla lawsuit against it, is Pro-Amnesty so we’d lose the chance to get a AZ type of immigration bill through the state - she’ll veto it.

Sink would literally mean electing Obama as our Gov. Given the choice and what is at stake, Scott will get my vote in the general - he did not get it in the primary.

You were suckered by all the Obama media lies about Scott .

The Clinton's went after Scott and HCA because they lobbied and killed Hillarycare so Reno was out to destroy all the opponents .

Just what makes you all think Scott was such a great guy? What I read about him (and not fromt he McCollum campaign)made me see red, and not as in Republican red, but in anger for the millions he drained from the state. What’s so great about that? It’s too bad that these days no really good guy can afford to run for office unless you have a lot of disposable personal income to spare. We were not serviced well here in FL. I am not on the band wagon, thinking that our troubles are over by any stretch of the imagination. Scott might not be a so-called political insider, but he is not sqeaky clean.

FLRnc was backing McCollum but to say they wanted Crist NOW is crazy. Getting rid of Greer put an end to that - Crist’s support was waining within the party; that is one large reason he went Independent.

I fully agree with FLRNC with the 08 elections McCain. That race was a blessing in disguise, it’s one of a multitude of reasons Crist/Greer was ousted. That was NOT worth having Obama in the WH though and lets face fact, McCain ran a lousy campaign.

I’m pretty damned concerned about Scott’s ability to win given what I’m looking at.

The RNC came out in huge numbers today for a mid-term; in some cases record numbers. In every single race I looked at, the R candidate brought in more votes than their Dem counterpart. Some 3:1 or more, all except for Scott.

Alex Sink Dem. 663,510 (76.91%)
Rick Scott Rep. 595,183 (46.41%)

She beats him easily in overall votes.

Total votes however, makes the race flips.

Rep. 1,282,490 total votes cast.
Dem. 862,757 total votes cast.

Scott will have to get all of McCollum’s votes, without them he will not have a winnable base to work from.

This is reality and what we’ll need to deal with for November.

I did that for Crist [held my nose and voted for him] and have regretted it ever since. It looks like Sink is going to be the next Governor. Evidently that is what the Republicans want.

some freepers still don;t get it...Had Thompson won the primary he’d be our President now and Obama would still be in Illinois.

You still don't get it. Fred Thompson was never a serious candidate. Fred's wife Geri was the serious campaigner. Today Fred is hawking reverse mortgages on television.

Now is not the time to ridicule McCollum voters. There are precious few days to unite GOP voters before the general election. Kicking folks when they are down is nothing short of asinine when counting on those same votes in a matter of weeks. Open your eyes and realize another 10% of GOP votes went to McCalister. Rick Scott needs every vote he can muster to win the GOP race. You aren't doing Scott any favors in this forum.

Can Scott serve as Governor from a prison cell? I mean, I’m just curious. Because he IS a crook and deserves to be behind bars.

McCollum’s office probably has plenty of evidence to indict him but resisted because it would taint the primary election and look blatently political. Now that he can start cleaning out his desk in the AG’s office, maybe McCollum will turn his staff loose to bring the indictments. Or will “Conservatives” prevail on him not to indict their Savior and spoil the general election? Will McCollum fall on his sword for these lemmings?

The next couple of months are going to be very interesting in Florida as all this unfolds in front of the electorate. Scott may have bought himself a party nomination for $40,000,000,000, but I seriously doubt he can stand up to the fire that’s coming in the general election.
