Amidst Obama's Falling Poll Numbers, MSNBC Tries to Suggest He Could Rebound Like Reagan

During the 3 p.m. MSNBC news hour Monday, anchor Chris Jansing asked the question and hosted an expert who supplied the seemingly desired answer. The question: Could President Obama make a mid-term comeback similar to President Reagan in 1982? The answer: Absolutely.

The two discussed the similarities of the situations faced by the presidents, and seemed to conclude that if the economy turns around, President Obama would almost certainly be re-elected.

It is a big if, but the short segment seemed quite focused on what would happen after the economy turns around. The two didn't bother to discuss what would happen if the economy continues to be stagnant, or takes a turn for the worse.

"Well you have a President facing a deep recession, high unemployment, dropping poll numbers, and a potentially game-changing midterm election. That was Ronald Reagan's first two years in office. Then, two years later, he won re-election in a landslide," stated MSNBC anchor Chris Jansing. "Could President Obama make the same comeback?"

Guest Allan Lichtman, presidential historian at American University, answered in the affirmative. "Absolutely," he responded. "They are kind of mirror images of each other."

After Lichtman explained how the two Presidents' situations are quite similar, Jansing asked her follow-up question. "If the economy starts to turn around in the next year to 18 months...is it likely to follow that Barack Obama will have a much easier time with re-election?"

"It will follow like night to day," Lichtman predictably answered. "And of course this all presumes the Democrats don't commit internal suicide by challenging [Obama] in the primaries."

>> I predict he will make a come-back with a Republican led house & senate. <<

Sadly, I don’t think a Republican-led House and Senate can provide the strong economic growth needed to give Obama a strong economy on which to run, nor do I expect that the would allow it to pass, if it could.

Would you like that Flavor Aid with or without cyanide? And would you like that supersized?

Yeah, I know.

I was directing my comments to the RaceMarxist in the White House.

Our disgustingly corrupt, idiot politicians have definitely painted us into an economic corner with this unending, insane spending. Right now, the ChiComms own us.

I predict he will make a come-back with a Republican led house & senate.

No, he is already bored with being President.

He has a two year attention span.

Once he has to deal with any real opposition he will fold.

He won't run in 2012, it will be Hillary's turn.

Reagan inspired true, Red, White and Blue Americanism... Obama inspires mainly America haters... the only way Obama can make a come back is to turn more and more people into America haters. Sad to say, Joe Scarface and MSNBC has turned... dumb bastard.

Allan Jay Lichtman (born April 4, 1947) is an American political historian who teaches at American University in Washington, D.C. He ran in the 2006 Maryland senate race for the seat vacated by Paul Sarbanes.

On September 28, 2005, Lichtman formally announced his candidacy for the United States Senate from Maryland. He ran as a progressive, opposing the War in Iraq and calling for an immediate and safe withdrawal of U.S. troops.

Lichtman used innovative approaches to reach voters and supporters during the campaign including MySpace and a web ad where he jumped in a lake. When he and other candidates were not invited by the League of Women Voters to a debate, Lichtman went to the Maryland Public Television studio and protested; he, his wife, and campaign volunteer Gail Dobson were arrested. On October 19, 2006, the three were found Not Guilty on all charges.

Lichtman lost in the primary to Ben Cardin. According to the final tally, he received 6,919, or 1.2% of the vote, landing him in 6th place in a field of 18.

“It will follow almost like night to day that Barack Obama will win re-election if the economy picks up.”

Tax hikes will bring the economy out of the recession because small businesses and rich people just love to pay taxes that go to Democrat causes. They will also be more inclined to hire more people because it is a greater challenge and more exciting to run a business with tighter margins. Productivity always increases when taxes go up and new regulations are enacted. With less disposable income, people are more inclined to splurge, further stimulating the economy. Everyone knows that the government is always smarter than the invisible hand of the free market. After all its the government alone that creates bureaucrats, administrators, IRS agents which further grow our GDP.

All of these time tested approaches will be messaged by the MSM to the American people. The administration will concoct the appropriate statistics to support these actions. We expect nothing less.

You want inventory drawn down, not going higher. If its lower that means sales are made and inventories will need to be replenished.

How? He isn’t a leader—he’s a college professor at best. He can read speeches—that’s it. Only if we have a war can he hope to rally the people around him. Wag-the-dog? I see no leadership in him. He can’t make up his mind, he can’t rally people to his cause. He’s doing worse than I expected. All he has is the race card, the blame Bush card, and talk about green jobs. That’s it. He is wrecking the Democratic Party before our eyes.

Drawing down inventory is good for the economy, but I was coming up with ways that July could have HAD GDP growth in spite of already known weak sales. If the product ain’t selling, than either there’s less product (GDP decreases) or there’s growth in the inventory.
