I differ from you folks.

If we are able to show the Paki’s that the US stands behind their misery, and truly wishes to help them out, the potential goodwill may just pay itself back many, many times over.

What’s $500 milllion in aid to these desperate people, when Pelosi can piss away that much for funding studies as why rats fornicate in the NYC sewer systems.

Yeah, I know that these people all want gimmee’s, so would you if everything you owned, and where you work was instantly trash - no future, no money, no job, family responsibilities.

If we could convert Paki to some form of democratic rule as they could look to the US as friends in need, it would be a hell of alot cheaper than bringing in the battlewagons.

(We were well on the way of capturing the Iraqi’s hearts, until Karpinski and Lyndee Englund decided to parade proud nude men around on leashes. Then the locals felt that we were mocking them, and things immediately turned ugly.)

I used to believe that, but after the tsunami, and the billions we gave away to Africa allegedly to fight AIDS....no more. Fool me once...

Not a chance. If these people haven’t changed from their 14th century mindset by now, they never will. How much of our tax dollars have already been sunk in that crap hole of a country? Do you remember hearing any gratitude? I don’t.

According to the latest figures from Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority, the United States heads the list of donors with $76 million in cash, plus goods and services that are said to be worth another $11 million. Great Britain is No. 2, with $50 million. China, which is popular in Pakistan, has offered $9 million.

There has been criticism of Muslim countries not giving enough, which seems to have stung some to reach into their pockets. Saudi Arabia has delivered $44 million, while Turkey is to give $11 million.

Many energy-rich Middle Eastern countries are being less than generous, however. Qatar has pledged just $400,000. Pakistan's neighbor to the west, Iran, is giving $800,000, while the United Arab Emirates has no pledge that the Pakistani authorities have recorded.

We can't buy their friendship. Their leaders use hatred of the west to control the population. Remember, they were officially on the Taliban's side until September 12, 2001. I doubt the billions we have given them in the last 9 years has changed that much.

I would totally agree with you if we were dealing with a rational religion.

IOWs the several hundred billion dollars to date just hasn't been enough ... but we're close to the tipping point. Sheesh!

Look, when they had the earthquake, we were there. Not one word of gratitude, they just picked up killing our soldiers as soon as they ate the food that was delivered. I’m sick of hearing all this anti-American crap and then they expect us to come to their aid when the s**t hit the fan. Sorry, we’re broke, get your help from someone else.

Great sarcasm, but I missed the tag.

I, on the other hand, would send them cholera, anthrax and smallpox, not necessarily in that order.

They need SOMETHING to whine about, and I'm always happy to help.

I don’t know which side to choose anymore, sometimes the Paki’s are fer us, sometimes not. Our relations with India always seem strained even though we have outsourced many jobs to them. Seems like most countries we help eventually turn against us. I don’t want anyone to live without food, water and clothing but I’m also tired of being bit in the butt by ungrateful persons who will never lift a finger to help my children and they will scorn them along the way. I am out of ideas but I think that throwing good money after bad doesn’t help me or them. Do you have an plan to reduce corruption? We can try it out in Mexico to begin with and then move on to others in need.

I've been observing foreign aid all my adult life and haven't seen us buy one damn'd friend yet. We give, they spit in our faces. That's the way it's always been.

Liberal clap trap in spades.

Please list all the times our willingness to give our treasure, lives and work to rescue some Third World toilet from some natural disaster or malignant mass murder have resulted in anything except contempt. For sixty years, we have been out front in trying to help the worthless, succor the stupid, pay the greedy thieves of foreign governments who could care less about their own populations.

We're broke. Pissed it away on people who will kill us in an instant. Even our own president hates and ignores the people he was hired to lead.

Let them starve, or drown, or kill each other. They are animals. Let them eat each other. We have our own problems.

The US has donated $90 million so far.

I can’t find any info on how much oil rich, Muslim countries have given.

Angelina Jolie sent $100,000.00. How about you?

"The World Bank declared in a press release on August 16 that it would send 900 million dollars to Pakistan to help the country recover from the floods. It did not specify when the money would be sent. That is more than the 100 million dollars in aid money initially announced after the earthquake in Haiti. But the institution explained in July that it had ended up “giving 479 million dollars in support of the reconstruction of Haiti”.

And just who do you think will be footing the lion's share of that $900 million? Saudi Arabia ???? Doubtful...

If this were still the Bush administration or a McCain administration we would already be there with bags o money - just like we always have.

But there is a new sheriff in town, and he's ever so distracted by his golf game.

If we are able to show the Paki’s that the US stands behind their misery, and truly wishes to help them out, the potential goodwill may just pay itself back many, many times over.

One other little detail....no matter how much we help - or pander - they will take, but they will not appreciate. That doesn't matter since we do it out of Christian charity, but don't misunderstand the motivations at play here.

>>>What’s $500 milllion in aid to these desperate people...

About five $100 million Swiss bank accounts for corrupt Pakistan leaders.

>>>If we could convert Paki to some form of democratic rule...

No offense, but “Hah-hah-hah!” This sounds like GWB wanting to “bring democracy to the Middle East.” Not in your or my lifetimes.

We (the US) should have a standard $/victim value for culture sensitive food, tents, blankets, clothes, water (in kind) that U.S. military hands out directly to non-armed victims (no UN, or non-profit groups doing the handouts). NO CASH to governments. NO THIRD PARTIES. And... get out of the ridiculously worthless UN.

For a great review of the failure of foreign aid, please refer to William Easterly’s interview in “From Poverty to Prosperity” by Kling and Schulz. Ex-foreign aid proponent, Easterly, explains why foreign aid always fails.
