Fox News host Glenn Beck: Some unemployed 99ers should be ashamed to call themselves American
New York Daily News ^ | 8/17/10 | Aliyah Shahid

Glenn Beck has a message for the chronically unemployed: You're a bunch of un-American losers. The Fox News host thinks some 99ers — those who have used up their 99 weeks of unemployment benefits—should be embarrassed to call themselves Americans (Snip) "Go out and get a job," said Beck. "You may not want the job. Work at McDonald's. Work two jobs. There has been plenty of times in my life I've done jobs I hated, but I had no choice. Two years is plenty of time to have lived off your neighbor's wallet."

>>Maybe for the same reason you won’t own your own arrogance.<<

Yep. I claim physical pain that makes me a pain in the butt instead of the pain the back I am feeling. It isn’t a proper excuse but it seems to drive my fingers.

These are tough times and I was trying to emphasize how important it is to always work hard to keep your knowledge current to make yourself marketable.

I failed pretty miserably didn’t I? Based on my conduct on this thread, I wouldn’t hire me. Heck, I wouldn’t even hire people who know me!

Ever have a waking dream where you stand outside yourself and have no idea who the heck is at the controls (ST:TOS “Spock’s Brain”)? Well, that is what I saw from me here.

Times ARE tough, jobs ARE drying up. We can’t support everyone forever but there is a vast middle ground we can explore.

But hard work and planning are up to everyone as individuals. And those ARE Conservative values.

I apologize again to Tolsti2 and others who I offended in my pain-induced tirades.

I’ve read through these posts, and I have to say, I had to keep checking the address bar to make sure I was really on FR! That freedom thing/guy talks like a progressive troll. I kept thinking while I was reading his responses to you, oh he’s going to get his. The Big Guy does not take kindly to braggartsmand He has a way of making sure we all get the lessons we so richly deserve. Sorry you and others had to read his tripe.

So, the 50+ jobs I read in the physical paper were fake, as were the 1,000+ I am qualified for I found on Monster.com. Not to mention the 30 or 40 contacts that would hire me in a NY minute if I were to pick up the phone...

A certain percentage of them are definitely fake, in that the employer is required to insert the ad to comply with EEOC requirements, even though the position has been filled in-house. Doubtless many of them are legitimate--but there are thousands of people applying for EACH of those positions. If you submit your resume, whether you think you're qualified or not, whether you're really qualified or not, you have to have just the right keywords in your resume or the employer's resume-handling contractor will kick it out.

Even if your resume makes it to the "accepted" stack, the chances are that a younger person will get the nod anyway. You'll never have a chance to come in for an interview and prove how great you are, much less to annoy the hiring manager with your obnoxious arrogance.

I went to a state-mandated "how to get a job" seminar two weeks ago. It was full of guys just like you, who were big shots, or thought they were, until they tried to pick up the phone and get hired by one of their contacts. Then they found out that all those contacts were out of work themselves, or closing their offices forever. They were stunned and, for the first time in their lives, they were humbled.

So here's my question: if you're such a big success, why don't you hire some out-of-work Freepers? Hm? No, I don't want to hear a lot of crap about how this Freeper doesn't know how to do what your office does or that Freeper doesn't meet your standards in some other way. That's exactly what we hear from other employers. But you seem to think it's so easy. Fine. Prove it. Hire some of us who live in your area. I'm sure that wherever you live there are Freepers near you.

Talk is cheap. Put your money where your mouth is.

I’ll take the apology, but you’re acting like a drunk guy that just called his wife a whore and then goes to apologize 5 minutes later.

Unfortunately you did it in a very public way. I’ll be sure to try and avoid you in general on here, I learned my lesson.

Agreed. See the last few points. I don’t do self-flagellation well but I caught with myself, I think.

You really don’t get to apologize for another but I have apologized for myself.

My passion about making oneself marketable got mixed up with other things with less than happy results.

While he doesn’t favor extending benefits, Mr. Hubbard supports more government spending on job training as well as help for community colleges to reverse the erosion of jobs skills among the long-term unemployed.

This has been done for years with little return for the money they have soaked into it. A friend of mine went to some of these college courses offered....the instructors were those that no college would hire...terrible at teaching and had serious issues themselves. It was a bad mix for him...he quit...went to the library..and self taught himself. So many of the instructors they hire under those programs are deadbeats I understand. So those who hope to learn end up not qualified just the same.

Trust me, someday he is going to be humbled. It could happen in this life, it could happen in the next, but at some point he’s going to be on his knees, and his cold pride will be broken. God help him.

“I apologize again to Tolsti2 and others who I offended in my pain-induced tirades.”

“I’ll be sure to try and avoid you in general on here, I learned my lesson.”

Then that’s that - it’s done.

I wasn’t apologizing for you, but rather what they had to be exposed to. Glad you apologized for you own actions to those who were insulted by your words

You’re robbing Americans of work by outsourcing to Mumbai, then bitching and carping at us because we don’t have work here? You are beneath contempt. God forgive you for your vanity and pride.

Placating. Something to make it look like they’re addressing the Unemployment situation.

Wanna really fix this? Get your jackboot off the throat of business in America. Stop threatening and demonizing people who dare to pursue the American Dream. Punishing success while rewarding failure is unsustainable.

That said, I’m not optimistic. Every single thing this Administration has done has choked productivity in the private sector. Our misery is by malevolent design.

Please understand that I'm not trying to be rude, but where is the Dad?

I don't know where that lady's kids' dad is, but I'll tell you where many are: fathers who were once attentive about paying child support are now jobless themselves and unable to pay. Others are doing what fathers did in the 1930s: they're travelling around unsuccessfully looking for work.

In some cases people do not wish to leave a particular area because doing so would mean leaving their children with an ex. In some cases (like mine) people can't leave because we're legally required to keep a child within reasonable distance of the other parent, and yet the other parent can't assume custody.

I hear ‘overqualified’ a lot when I actually even get a call about a job.

Business school professor goes undercover to find out first hand what it's really like to work in fast food, how a typical fast food joint operates, etc. Naturally, he neglected to provide his hiring managers with his curriculum vitae.
