WASHINGTON (AFP) Israel has "eight days" to launch a military strike against Iran's Bushehr nuclear facility and stop Tehran from acquiring a functioning atomic plant, a former US envoy to the UN has said.
Iran is to bring online its first nuclear power reactor, built with Russia's help, on August 21, when a shipment of nuclear fuel will be loaded into the plant's core.
At that point, John Bolton warned Monday, it will be too late for Israel to launch a military strike against the facility because any attack would spread radiation and affect Iranian civilians.

We could all go onto Google Earth and put push-pins on Bushehr with the words “Hey Israel - bomb this building!” on them.
Great. I just got married and bought my first home and the world is going to end.
Awesome.
Welcome to 21st century warfare. The mere act of making a WMD with a stated intent to use, is an act of war itself. It would be irresponsible to wait for Iran to use it before acting.
I hope that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is in the vicinity too.
I'd think a well placed dumb penetrator would be able to punch a hole in the containment dome, and rupture the reactor vessel. All they could do is concrete over the hole, and start over, everything inside would be too contaminated to be salvagable.
OK.
And, what???? It's not like the Iranians wouldn't detonate a dirty bomb in the middle of Jerusalem if they could.
Look on the bright side - you don’t have to worry about paying off your mortgage!
Oh, I dunno. I think Israel has defenses that we know nothing about. Offensive defense may not be the way to go this time. It’s not a question of whether they can strike, but can they gain air supremacy and drive the sky train of bombs all that way to accomplish what would need to be done. I just don’t see that happening.
Make it glow?
So is it that the fuel “will be loaded” that makes the difference? If this deal is actually going forward (and not some publicity stunt), I’m sure the rods are already on site, and have been for awhile.
You mean like a concrete bomb?
Hmm, here's a possibility: maybe the IAF can blow up all the cooling plants and force the pile to scram itself. Don't know what failsafe response this plant has - and how irretreivable the failsafe response is - but its going to have something: maybe the IAF can trigger it.
Their torpedo tubes are about 21" diameter. I don't think many spec ops troops could fit easily even without their gear. Special forces can exit while submerged but in a slightly more conventional manner (James Bond movies not withstanding).
Upside is...no 30-year mortgage!
That radiation is a lot less than the FUTURE radiation that is going to be dumped on Israel, Europe and America!
I hear you, but the plant is right on the coast. The Israelis could whack that site without passing over a cm of Iranian soil. There is no easier target in Iran.
Well, think of it this way, you might not have to even make your first payment? Just kidding, don’t worry man, and Congrats on getting married !!
Thanks for pointing out the silver lining.
Cities nearby?
Political correctness continues to prevent this from actually happening years ago! A President Reagan would of done something long before now, and, still to this day, nothing has actually happened to end this nightmare, finally!
