President Barack Obama used the anniversary of Social Security to trumpet Democrats' support for the popular program and accuse Republicans of trying to destroy it.
Seventy-five years after President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Social Security into law, Obama said in his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday: "We have an obligation to keep that promise, to safeguard Social Security for our seniors, people with disabilities and all Americans — today, tomorrow and forever."
Some Republican leaders in Congress are "pushing to make privatizing Social Security a key part of their legislative agenda if they win a majority in Congress this fall," Obama said.
He contended that such privatization was "an ill-conceived idea that would add trillions of dollars to our budget deficit while tying your benefits to the whims of Wall Street traders and the ups and downs of the stock market."

If only they would put a stake through it’s heart. If people had to depend upon private retirement plans, the government would be more conductive to making the private sector grow and protect it. Instead, we have a system that robs future generations, rather, than add wealth.

Way to go, Republicans in D.C. Whose brain dead idea was this? Great timing too! Scare all of the seniors right before the election. The DNC will put all of their lying machinery against you, and 10’s of millions into the effort.
You bring this up AFTER you have won in November, NOT before!

The GOP can sit back and let 1.4 trillion dollar yearly deficits destroy Social Security and every other gov’t program when the country goes under.
But then, I blame them all, regardless of party.
Obama tries to pretend he hates the megabanks (such as Goldman, who was his #2 contributor after the U. of Cal. in 2008), but he wants them to steal money directly from us in the form of the “cap and trade” private tax (and they would be only to happy to oblige).
So in spite of those facts, the megabanks are not to be trusted with retirement money. And I think that assertion is correct, although I can’t believe he really cares about seniors or anyone else outside his special constituencies, and only “cares” about most of them in an opportunistic sense.
The Democrats are destroying our economy and entitlements with their massive new debt.
What a liar. The Dims changed the status of SS and began raiding it years ago. Zero is trying to put a spin on it so the blame is away from his minions. Election year sure brings the crazies out of the woodwork.
Reid ia scared. His commercials are getting nasty. Angle’s are well thought-out and put his to shame. He is exposing his real self, now.

Not this s*** again-the first time I heard that the GOP was going to destroy Social Security, I was a about 14 years old, and it was LBJ saying it on TV during his campaign against Barry Goldwater. My parents were laughing their asses off and saying what a transparent scare tactic it was, since the program had been doomed from the beginning. I have heard it repeated by ‘RATS like a mantra in every campaign since.

No he isn’t but you NEVER give the Dems a chance to demagogue an issue this sensitive right before an election. I’ll bet he realizes it by now. He made a mistake. On another note, he is one of the very few to slap Obama in public, and I tip my hat to him.
The GOP hens are trying to keep SS going as much as their Democrat sisters are. SS is going to go away, anyway. So sorry, too bad. Good riddance.
Only democrats would create the largest ponzi scheme in the history of mankind (social security) then legalize abortion that reduces the paying half and wonder why social security is going bankrupt...

First, Congress can’t seem to bass a budget for the first time in 234 years. Then no SS annual report... I’m buying more gold on Monday...
Tell you what, for four to five times the retirement income, they can destroy Social Security for all I care.
Put the money away and let it draw interest. Then the government won’t have to subsidize a fund, or more like it, steal from it.
Under Obama, Social Security has become insolvent six years ahead of schedule. And he has the effrontery to denigrate Republicans over it? Please.
