First Rush, then Coulter, and Now Glenn Beck ... What’s Happening?

Commentary by John-Henry Westen

NEW YORK, August 12, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Appearing on The O’Reilly Factor yesterday, famed conservative Fox News host Glenn Beck may have shocked many Americans by noting that he was not very concerned about homosexual 'marriage.'

O’Reilly asked Beck, “Do you believe that gay marriage is a threat to the country in any way?” Beck replied, “No, I don't,” adding sarcastically, “Will the gays come and get us?”

After being pressed again on the question, Beck said, “I believe -- I believe what Thomas Jefferson said. If it neither breaks my leg nor picks my pocket, what difference is it to me?”  Showing his own surprise, O’Reilly remarked, “Okay, so you don't. That's interesting. Because I don't think a lot of people understand that about you.”

The Glenn Beck revelation comes on the heels of two other startling announcements by conservative celebrity pundits in the last couple of weeks.  Earlier this week it was announced that conservative pundit Ann Coulter would headline a fundraiser for the homosexual activist group within the Republican Party, GOProud.  And on July 29, although his position had been revealed before, talk radio host Rush Limbaugh again came out in favor of homosexual civil unions, while being opposed to same-sex ‘marriage.’

To be fair, it must be pointed out that Beck said he was looking at the ‘big picture’ and promoting faith, the answer to all such things.  Moreover, he added that he was okay with gay ‘marriage’ with a caveat.  “As long as we are not going down the road of Canada, where it now is a problem for churches to have free speech. If they can still say, hey, we oppose it,” he said.

But even to have suggested, as strongly as he did, that he was not opposed to gay ‘marriage’ is detrimental and demonstrates a ‘small picture’ approach.

Beck seems like a good guy. He’s thoughtful.  He’s right on many matters in the culture war.  For instance, when O’Reilly followed up and asked if Beck thought abortion threatened the United States, Beck replied dramatically in the affirmative.  “Abortion is killing, it’s killing, you’re killing someone,” he said.

So I thought it’d be worth it to calmly and persuasively share concerns with Beck on his approach.  He may not read my email, but I’m sure if enough pro-family folks were to get the message to him, he’d reconsider his outlook.

Here’s Beck’s email:

And here’s the gist of what I wrote:

Laws teach people what is right and wrong and thus homosexual acts will implicitly be given the stamp of approval where such legal recognition is granted.  The young will be given the false impression that this behavior is safe and acceptable, or even good.

Society has a duty to legally recognize and support married couples since they are, through procreation, the source for the continuation of human life and thus society itself.  Homosexual couples cannot properly procreate and thus have no such claim to societal recognition.

The question is not so much about marriage, but about homosexual acts.  The acts are harmful to the individuals who engage in them. They are harmful physically, emotionally and spiritually.

With regard to persons engaged in such behavior or identifying with it, there must never be unjust discrimination.  All gay bashing, name-calling and the like should be condemned.  However, there must be discrimination on this front, a just discrimination, to preserve societal recognition for marriage between one man and one woman.

.....he seems to be on my side.

A dry drunk disc jockey, with no education, but good intentions, he is on your side, just not all the time and quite unpredictably.

Sad state of affairs when disc jockeys just catching up on their High School Reading List are the leading popular philosophers of the Republican Party. Annie? OK, she's conservative. But she is also desperately and terminally seeking approval of the folks she considers hip. She's also a victim of the female desire to be "nice."

There is absolutely nothing "nice," about homosexuality. OTOH, homos can be "nice" people, or at least act like it in public, that is they can stay "in the closet," and act straight while they perform their jobs.

I think if those who think this issue does not concern them would look at some of those images, they would completely change their minds. It doesn’t take a genius to know that these are not healthy adults.

What you said is perfectly true and obvious to anyone who is not emotionally biased.

beck I have noticed chooses what to leave out and what to put in, When he talked about Lincoln I noticed how he forgot or left out I should say many things Lincoln said and did.

Beck with the homosexual agenda is like a lot of conservatives talk show hosts.
They live in their elitist circles and not with the average person on the street.
They never hardly ever talk about the homosexual or abortion agenda because it does not fit into their speech or view.
How many times do we hear Beck and Hannity talk about this?
Hardly never and yet they talk about God etc.

I couldn’t careless any more about what they say because most of them just repeat the same mantra and are more PC by the month

Exactly, Glenn. Just wait until one of them gets alone with your child for too long.

I know of what I speak.

EXACTLY
Every argument the homosexuals and their ignorant supporters use can be used for any argument.

I now would lie to see the polygamists go to court and get their marriage and the the muslims.
Will Beck support this?
Will homosexuals support this?

Marriage is not the full agenda it is a step to an end and if these supporters of it cannot see this because all they can say is well I know one and he is nice then this country is truly screwed up for my kids to grow up in.

All this is part of prophecy, as you know.

Yes but one still wants to pull them back from the edge.

I heard a sermon once where the preacher said "What if everyone that you knew was marching toward a cliff and they didn't see it but you did? What would you do? What lengths would you go to to help them see? Those that are unsaved have the next footfall over that edge." That has stuck with me over 20 years later.

nail on head . I’ve just wrote that their sham marriage is one step to an end and these supporters had better wake up instead of saying they know one and they are nice crap.

Yep, me too.

There are things about him that I love.
And things that make me nervous in my spirit. Until I know one way or the other about him, I regard him with caution.

Huldah, I have never been a big Lot fan... first offering his daughters to the mob of homos, and then, "knowing" them after his wife got the Pillar of Salt deal. The Lot family just ain't my idea of role models. I don't know how things were in Sodom, but this Lot bunch certainly would not be accepted in a decent 55+ trailer park.

Also, why aren't there ever any hot news stories coming out of Gomorrah? Seems like biased coverage.

say a few things, wrote a few books and then tell people the real you.

Good point, he harps on about faith charity etc and then has no problem with men poking each other up the butts or women pretending to be men wearing strap ons.

They’re mentally disturbed and so is anyone who supports their crap, no pun intended either.

I don't know. I don't listen to any pundits. I seldom read what they say either. They get paid to say stuff. I really believe in conservatism.

I have never seen Beck. Never listened to him. You can get the same info online and point it out to him.

You hit the nail on the noggin with your incisive analysis.

Gays are one of the most affluent and big-spending minority groups in the country.....including those gays who are in positions to purchase millions of dollars worth of media advertising....and including those right down to shoppers and campaign donors. Don't think Rush, Glenn and Coulter and other big media names aren't acutely aware of this.

This is why they cozy up to gays, or simply don't address the issue when doing their gigs. They may be personally and quietly anti-gay....but they can't admit it.

This is also why so many national religious leaders are silent......and local preachers skirt the issue, too.....they can't afford to lose contributions from the oft-times ultra-generous lavender members of their congregations.

"Always follow the money trail" is a trite but true adage that was coined for good reason and which has seldom failed when employed as a lodestar in puzzling situations.

BS. The GOProud’s legislative agenda posted on their website is 90% homosexual agenda. If you have read it, and you still think it’s conservative or that they are any better than the LCR you have reading or cognitive problems.

Link to their agenda:

http://www.goproud.org.php5-12.dfw1-2.websitetestlink.com/federal-legislative-priorities/

Here is their agenda with the homosexual agenda parts noted:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2569350/posts?page=111#111

You think GOProud has a conservative agenda? Get you head out of the sand or whatever dark place it’s stuck. Here’s GOProud’s legislative agenda, 90% homo-nazi agenda crap.

Note that these homosexual agenda pushers with a fake label on want to “hold the line” on gov spending. Hold the freaking line? When it’s way over in the “insane” territory? And punish other countries who are mean to sexual perverts? Sheesh! And of course they like “hate crimes” bills - not exactly small government - and employment protection (aka “you can’t fire homosexuals”). You like those examples of Big Brother Gov?

GOProud’s “Conservative” HA HA Agenda

(The following from their website with my comments)

The so-called “gay agenda” is defined by the left through a narrow prism of legislative goals. While ****hate crimes and employment protections may be worthy goals****, there are many other important priorities that receive little attention from the gay community. GOProud’s agenda emphasizes conservative and libertarian principles that will improve the daily lives of all Americans, but especially gay and lesbian Americans.

1 - TAX REFORM - Death tax repeal; ****domestic partner tax equity****, and other changes to the tax code that will provide equity for gays and lesbians; cut in the capital gains and corporate tax rates to jump start our economy and create jobs; a fairer, flatter and substantially simpler tax code.

2 - HEALTHCARE REFORM - Free market healthcare reform. Legislation that will allow for the purchase of insurance across state lines - expanding access to ****domestic partner benefits****; emphasizing individual ownership of healthcare insurance - such a shift would prevent discriminatory practices by an employer or the government.

3 - SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM - Bringing basic fairness to the Social Security system through the creation of **** inheritable personal savings accounts.**** ie for homosexual “partners”.

4 - DON’T ASK, DON’T TELL REPEAL - ****Repeal of the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy.**** THEY WANT OPEN HOMOSEXUALS IN THE MILITARY FOLKS!

5 - HOLDING THE LINE ON SPENDING - Standing up for all tax payers against wasteful and unnecessary spending to protect future generations from the mounting federal debt.

6 - FIGHTING GLOBAL EXTREMISTS - Standing strong against **** radical regimes who seek to criminalize gays and lesbians****. [even Muslim ones?]

7 - DEFENDING OUR CONSTITUTION - Opposing any **** anti-gay federal marriage amendment****. THEY WANT HOMOSEXUAL aka SAME SEX MARRIAGE SHOVED DOWN OUR THROATS

8 - ENCOURAGING COMMUNITY ENTREPRENEURSHIP - Package of free market reforms to encourage and support small businesses and entrepreneurship *****in the gay community****. HOW SPECIAL - BENNIES FOR HOMOSEXUALS! HOW CONSERVATIVE!

9 - REVITALIZING OUR COMMUNITIES - A package of urban related reforms; expanding historic tax preservation credits; support for school choice. (note: since homosexuals congregate in city centers, this is for upgrades to their own personal hangouts obviously.)

10 - DEFENDING OUR COMMUNITY - Protecting 2nd amendment rights
