First Rush, then Coulter, and Now Glenn Beck ... What’s Happening?

Commentary by John-Henry Westen

NEW YORK, August 12, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Appearing on The O’Reilly Factor yesterday, famed conservative Fox News host Glenn Beck may have shocked many Americans by noting that he was not very concerned about homosexual 'marriage.'

O’Reilly asked Beck, “Do you believe that gay marriage is a threat to the country in any way?” Beck replied, “No, I don't,” adding sarcastically, “Will the gays come and get us?”

After being pressed again on the question, Beck said, “I believe -- I believe what Thomas Jefferson said. If it neither breaks my leg nor picks my pocket, what difference is it to me?”  Showing his own surprise, O’Reilly remarked, “Okay, so you don't. That's interesting. Because I don't think a lot of people understand that about you.”

The Glenn Beck revelation comes on the heels of two other startling announcements by conservative celebrity pundits in the last couple of weeks.  Earlier this week it was announced that conservative pundit Ann Coulter would headline a fundraiser for the homosexual activist group within the Republican Party, GOProud.  And on July 29, although his position had been revealed before, talk radio host Rush Limbaugh again came out in favor of homosexual civil unions, while being opposed to same-sex ‘marriage.’

To be fair, it must be pointed out that Beck said he was looking at the ‘big picture’ and promoting faith, the answer to all such things.  Moreover, he added that he was okay with gay ‘marriage’ with a caveat.  “As long as we are not going down the road of Canada, where it now is a problem for churches to have free speech. If they can still say, hey, we oppose it,” he said.

But even to have suggested, as strongly as he did, that he was not opposed to gay ‘marriage’ is detrimental and demonstrates a ‘small picture’ approach.

Beck seems like a good guy. He’s thoughtful.  He’s right on many matters in the culture war.  For instance, when O’Reilly followed up and asked if Beck thought abortion threatened the United States, Beck replied dramatically in the affirmative.  “Abortion is killing, it’s killing, you’re killing someone,” he said.

So I thought it’d be worth it to calmly and persuasively share concerns with Beck on his approach.  He may not read my email, but I’m sure if enough pro-family folks were to get the message to him, he’d reconsider his outlook.

Here’s Beck’s email:

And here’s the gist of what I wrote:

Laws teach people what is right and wrong and thus homosexual acts will implicitly be given the stamp of approval where such legal recognition is granted.  The young will be given the false impression that this behavior is safe and acceptable, or even good.

Society has a duty to legally recognize and support married couples since they are, through procreation, the source for the continuation of human life and thus society itself.  Homosexual couples cannot properly procreate and thus have no such claim to societal recognition.

The question is not so much about marriage, but about homosexual acts.  The acts are harmful to the individuals who engage in them. They are harmful physically, emotionally and spiritually.

With regard to persons engaged in such behavior or identifying with it, there must never be unjust discrimination.  All gay bashing, name-calling and the like should be condemned.  However, there must be discrimination on this front, a just discrimination, to preserve societal recognition for marriage between one man and one woman.

WE have laws protecting children and animals.

The US had laws against sodomy until society became "enlightened" in the 1970's and beyond. These laws had been in place since the beginning of our nation. Laws mean nothing in the face of "oppression", do they.

Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

You could make the same argument about any crime. Do we abolish all criminal punishment?

And, we’re not even talking about criminal punishment here. We are talking about refusing to pretend that an obvious dysfunction — and, to believers, a perversion and sin — is “normal.”

Even aside from moral objections, there is biological reality. Sex and sexual attraction have an obvious biological purpose. The urge to imitate intercourse with a person lacking the proper equipment is an obvious dysfunction. It is as if you had an irresistible urge to “eat” by stuffing your food in your ear. There is no reason by society should be bludgeoned into accepting it as “normal.” It is allowing the inmates to take over the asylum.

And, the fact that some homosexuals do nice things makes no difference.

I have never followed any pundit. They get paid to be conservative. I’m conservative because I know it works.

I don’t play semantics. I simply believe we are forcing our beliefs on a group of people and condemning them through punishment. God burned Sodom.....not man. Let God judge them and let us not oppress them. Let us make them as free to choose God and turn from that lifestyle as we are from our own sin. Let us not turn them off to the freedom God grants us by oppressing them? We become just as guilty.
Frankly, I am shocked and embarrassed by the stone throwing christians when it comes to this issue. I see why Coulter and Rush wont pick those stones up.

The Gay Marriage issue is the wrong fight at the wrong time...

The first battle of the conservative agenda must be securing economic liberty; meaning serious tax reform, probable term limits and a much smaller government like our forefathers visioned.

The problem with this “fiscal conservative” thinking....is that most who claim to want “economic liberty”...support Free Trade deals like WTO, NAFTA, CAFTA, etc. All these groups surrender “economic liberty” since they take US soverignity and surrender it to larger, big government entities to rule on our economic policies. No longer can Americans determine their economic pursuits....they have to be run thru the WTO, NAFTA, even the UN....before they become implemented.

The gay marraige issue is important...because it devalues and destroys traditional marraige. What will be next: Marraige to pets, to feral animals, to vintage cars, marraige to children....the gay marraige issue is that “slipppery slope” that will lead to some really downright perversions

I don't have a problem with that position if the source is accurate. I'm sure the Religious Taliban will want to stone me but who cares.

[Yes Glenn - they will come for your children!!!!!!]

The Scriptures teach that homosexuality is an abomination ot the LORD GOD of Hosts and that such sin not only brings destruction to every individual involved therein, but also that they recruit others to do the same. You decide, note especially verse [1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.]

ROM 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

ROM 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

ROM 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

ROM 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

ROM 1:23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

ROM 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

ROM 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

ROM 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

ROM 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

ROM 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

ROM 1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

ROM 1:30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

ROM 1:31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

ROM 1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Have you noticed that since Prop 8 was struck down by a gay judge FR has been overrun with those pushing the homosexual agenda?

“America needs a Christian revival”

America need limited government revival and a return to self reliance.

This is all about tax breaks, insurance coverage, and social security.

Limit government, limit the scourges that government enables.

I am not gay and I am not pushing homosexuality. I said before that I do think it is a sin. I just believe christians need to reconsider how they are reacting as compared to how we are called to act. I believe we are reacting as the people did around the lady caught in adultry. Had Jesus not stepped in, she would have been stoned. Are we preventing Jesus from stepping in to the hearts of gay people by how we react? I personally think so.
If the big guy wants to kick me off for that then so be it. I am in good company knowing that he would also kick off Coulter, Beck, and Rush.
Our mission needs to be united. The homosexuality issue is a divider. That is the only reason I question Coulters willingness to accept that invitation at this time.

Unfortunately, there’s someone in this thread twisting those words to try and excuse and condone such behavior under the guise of forgiveness and grace.

Oh, sorry Sandy01, didn’t see you standing there.

I agree.

I am a true supporter on traditional man/woman marraige.

However I chose to live a single chaste life and chose to practice the Catholic faith.

You’ve been misquoting scripture to excuse the behavior, you’ve said that not letting gays marry is oppressing them, you are a liar.
