The bishops of Mexico have released a press statement denouncing the controversial Arizona immigration law. The statement was signed by Bishop Víctor René Rodríguez Gómez of Texcoco, secretary general of the Mexican bishops’ conference.
“With deep sadness, we have received the news that the immigration law SB1070 has entered into force,” the statement begins. Expressing solidarity with Latinos residing in the United States, the bishops “ask with insistence that the Lord of life and all the earth move the hearts of all people who do not know the Father of all and have not been able to discover brotherhood, tolerance, and mercy.”
“We value and we are thankful to the noble and generous people of the United States of America, who for years have offered a warm welcome and support to Mexico and so many countries in need on the continent and in the world,” the statement continues. “We are disappointed to see, and we firmly condemn, the selfish and irresponsible attitude of certain powerful groups which aim to separate countless families, leaving them to drown in deepest misery and poverty after having made enormous sacrifices and risked their lives in the search for a better life and a future of wellbeing and justice for their children.”
“We join our voices with those of all men and women of goodwill calling on Mexican authorities, and Mexican families and parishes, to warmly welcome with specific pastoral care our brothers and sisters forced to retrace their steps.”
“We intend to continue our activity to render our people of Mexico ‘A Home and a School of Communion,’ enabling them to be present in faith and prayer. We give them our blessing as Bishops and we commend them to the Heart of God, to His Son Jesus Christ, and to Holy Mary of Guadalupe.”

No offense is intended to any Catholics...but my goodness, the Catholic church seems to come down on the wrong side of just about everything lately. It almost seems like they are more of a government and less a church at the higher levels. It is really odd to think that backing liberal candidates, agendas and ideas would in any way promote a pro-life end result. It really baffles me.
Like I’ve said ... they can go off on Arizona’s law but their law is more draconian .... yep, like that word. Then again, the government is against us .....

Please explain why the catholic church did virtually nothing for 300 years as catholic Spaniards subjugated the indian population of Mexico, enslaving them and tying them to yokes like oxen, making them work underground in the silver mines, etc., ad nauseum, executing those who did not comply AND raping the women while men worked.
And, Mexico has strict immigration laws which are strictly enforced. One can not become a catholic priest in Mexico unless BORN there. That is the LAW. Furthermore, what religious influence are you exerting in Mexico in regard to the drug trade/war? Why are you not teaching the people in your religious assemblies that drug dealing is wrong, even when one is trapped in abject poverty (while you yourselves, as priests, live like kings relative to the standard of living of the general population)?
How dare you even open your mouth to criticize law-abiding citizens of Arizona and this country trying to restore lawful order in this nation. All you truly care about is extending the power and influence of the catholic church over the United States. Clean up your OWN house then make a comment about ours.

The stupid Bishop Gomez should look at Mexico’s law. But I also have some problems with Arizona law: it is not harsh enough.
Methinks yonder good Bishop should contemplate a bit on Matthew 7:3.

An illegal immigrant awaiting a deportation ruling has been charged with killing a nun and critically injuring two others in a drunken driving crash that has sparked criticism of how immigration enforcement is handled.
Twenty-three-year-old Carlos Martinelly Montano, who police say is illegally in the country, is charged with drunken driving, involuntary manslaughter and felony driving on a revoked license after the accident on Sunday in Virginia’s Prince William County. Montano was arrested two times before and charged with drunken driving, according to county police, and has also been arrested in separate incidents for other traffic-related offenses. Police say Montano, who is from Bolivia, was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement after at least one arrest, and a prosecutor said he knew of at least one other occasion he’d been referred to immigration officials.
Mexican Bishops should mind their own business. This is American and not their country.
The bishops’ time would be better spent asking the drug cartels to stop killing their fellow citizens by the hundreds.
The bishops ought to remember this verse:
“he who sows the wind shall reap the whirlwind” (Hosea 8:7)
Keep pushing and the whirlwind is coming.

Just one item....the old Bracero program. The US gave Mexico money to give these workers when they got home. Mexico kept the money.

Mexican Government still under suspicion
After more than half a century, the Mexican Government is still suspected of not returning a percentage of Bracero wages.
From 1942 to 1964, Mexicans worked in the United States under the Bracero Program. The U.S. Government withheld a percentage of their wages in a savings account that was never repaid. Nearly 4.5 million Mexicans participated in the program. The North American Government withheld 10 percent of the fieldworker wages, which were guaranteed savings for the workers, and transferred the funds to the Banco de Credito Agricola de Mexico, which changed to Banrural and today is known as Financiera Rural.
The problem is that none of the funds were paid out to the former migratory workers and the government never assumed the obligation to make the pay out. Years later, under pressure of organizations representing the ex-Braceros, on April 28, 2005, a law was created to help the former Braceros.
The law required advertisement in the Official Publication of the Federation until 2008 in order to start irregular payments (to the Braceros).
The decision was to pay every Bracero (or surviving family member) a sum of 38,000 pesos. The problem is that funds have not been allocated and as of now there are not sufficient resources to pay, and thousands have received only partial payment.
Months of registration of claims involving deceased and aged claimants have resulted in a logistical nightmare.
According to the organization Braceroproa, every 70 minutes a former Bracero or his widow dies, every 24 hours 17 die and at least 500 die every month. Since January of this year more than 8,000 have passed on.
The government first decided to make an initial payment of 4,000 pesos to each former Bracero but under pressure from organizations changed the law last May to allow payment of 38,000 pesos to the recipients in one lump sum. Braceroproa reports that since March, 39,000 ex-Braceros have received full payment, and some 80,000 to 90,000 have received the partial payment of 4,000 pesos and are waiting for the full payment of 38,000 pesos.
