Dealing with citizens legally carrying a concealed weapon
policeone.com ^ | July 26, 2010 | Ron Avery

As the ‘right to carry’ spreads across the United States, many law enforcement agencies and police officers express their unease — and for some, outright alarm — at the idea of citizens carrying concealed weapons.

......

Law abiding citizens do not expect to be treated like a felon — nor should they be. They will be angry if you prone them out, spread eagle them against a wall, or take their firearm from them without just cause. Good point to remember: A little thought and common sense goes a long way here.

you are correct the primary job of the cops is to investigation crime not to prevent it! (of course they will try if they are near by) but anyway.
Cops here have a direction! Your personaly safety first! (Military doesn´t have this here) the job is to protect and serve.
But maybe it´s just me! I have been in afghanistan and sudan (If have shot a children there)”btw. not fun!” the people we are talking have a lot more arms and more “advanced” arms than every american can only dream about. Still we are there and kill them relative easy if someone tells us. this is why i mean anarchy doesn´t work! they have it! and we kill people in a rate of 20:1 or sometimes 50:1 if they say so. A african with a ak47 is dead meat the only problem he has is that he don´t know it untill “we” shoot him. He/she has not even a chance.
Same for americans. There is nothing wrong to keep your weapons but the biggest failure is that you think you could fight off the government because you could not! The africans think the same! they have AK47s instead of a glock pistol for example! afgain a afrivan armed with an ak47 is just an easy targed. There is no danger from him. We can kill him everytime we want as long he gets not as close to 100 yards. Because sometimes they just have luck.

I question any judge or law enforcement officer if they think that citizens with guns are an issue. Law enforcements fineest friend is the law abiding citizen and to question this makes me wonder what yohr motives are and what you actually would do if some leftist scum politician gave you an “order” to disarm those citizens (Katrina)

LOL...Yep ....my fight is never with the cops. It’s with the asshats that write the laws that take us down the wrong roads.

I have a permit for that reason as well as keeping me and mine from victims list hopefully.

Hope yer well !

Just goes to show ya that you should have been carrying a Sig Sauer or an Heckler & Koch instead of the Austrian Lego.

Yes, and only a jack booted thug would do such a thing.

I hear you there.

I would think that with along the power of the law and the legal use of proactive force comes an extra onus to be patient with skepticism from the citizenry. Heavy handed, aggressive arguements, no matter how frusterating the criticism is, do not help in assuring the citizenry that you have their best interests at heart.

What ever happened to “to Protect and Serve”? Guess that was only a slogan no more permanent than the plastic decals on the LEO cars.

My husband is a police officer here in Georgia. He has never had a single worry about law-abiding citizens carrying guns. It’s the others that bother him. He has also said that if the fed forbids weapons, he will never take a person’s guns who has not broken the law. He believes in the Constitution.

My Glocks aren't as pretty as you Sigs, but I'm still love them. Course I got a 226 also.

If it’s legal, police usually respect it. This sounds like ‘journoList’ liars put it out...

Cops deal with criminals all the time who are armed. I doubt they're going to be that concerned about law biding citizens being armed.

When conceal carry came to Florida all the liberals were predicting shoot outs in malls etc. Of course, they were wrong. What happened was our crime rate went down.

Years ago I stopped a woman for an equipment violation. I had asked her for her registration and she said it was in the glove box. She reached for it and I told her I would look for it. I asked her if she had a gun in the car and she said no. I opened the glove box and there was a loaded pistol in it.

I asked her why she lied and she said she needed it for protection. I ran the serial number and it was clean. I unloaded it, and put it back in the glove box and let her go without filing any charges. I can't remember now if I cited her for the original violation.

I would recommend you go ASAP to your chaplain or preacher and have a serious discussion. You will not find any sort of relief here for that. Seriously, go talk to someone.

You sound like my kind of cop! I wish they were all like you, and I hope that most of them are. I must say that I was really heartened by reading the comments on the site where the article appeared. Many were by LEOs, and all were supportive of CCWs.

May God bless you and keep you safe -- it's a prayer I say under my breath whenever I see a cop.

Good cops are worth their weight in gold. Bad cops can be worse than criminals because they damage they do is exponential.
