Arizona Republican Primary: McCain 54%, Hayworth 34%
Rasmussen Reports ^ | July 25, 2010 | Rasmussen Reports

Senator John McCain has opened a 20-point lead over former Congressman J.D. Hayworth in Arizona’s Republican Senate Primary race.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely GOP Primary Voters in the state shows McCain attracting 54% of the vote, while Hayworth earns 34%.

For Hayworth, this represents another decline in support. In April, he picked up 42% of the vote. That fell to 40% in May, 36% in June and 34% in July.

Palin was, more or less, obligated to endorse the guy who put her on the national stage. Had she not, people would have considered her an ingrate because, had it not been for John McCain (whom I loathe), she would still be an unknown Governor from Alaska.

I’m giving her a pass on that.

Pretty hard to run an efficient campaign when your funds were effectively shut off. He stood a good chance when this started but after Palin stabbed us all in the back he couldn't recover. Even the tea party was confused and withheld any support until the 11th hours.

It's bad enough with the local media in McCain's hip pocket but when FOX News joined in it was pretty much over.

McCain will also get his "independents" (i.e. democrats) to the primary in droves.

Um, sorry, you endorse evil it rubs off on you. She has very poor judgement. If you want to know why her daughter took back that little creep Levi, look no further then the mother. She got stabbed in the back by McCain and his crew but went running back to him the minute he crooked his finger. You want someone like that in the WH fine, but I want someone who can tell the difference between good and evil.

JD might not be running the best campaign, and may have a couple of skeletons, but the stupidity of the Arizona voters to once again vote for this “amnesty for illegals” POS is beyond belief.

Arizona (and the rest of the country) are getting what we richly deserve!

Please, not this crap again. That dog don't hunt! Palin went against the principles she had publicly expressed and endorsed a candidate about as far from a "common sense conservative" as you can get. She sold out, and the reason she did it doesn't matter. She will have the consequences of a McCain victory on her head.

Is she the devil? No. Did she sell out conservatives who were counting on her? Yes.

I can’t remember where I read this but someone opined that he reminded people of a used car salesman.

I saw a few clips of the debate between him and McCain and that was the impression I got also. He does not have a likable personality and until he changes his persona, too may people will judge him and not his message. He comes across as a shyster.

There’s only one thing that will get rid of these entrenched long-timers in congress (of both prties); TERM LIMITS!

I don’t live in Arizona but this is troubling to me.

If this man is returned to the Senate, then he will go back and stab Arizona in the back as far as the border is concerned. Maybe because, just like so many who talk a good game about being concerned about Washington spending, too many love the “pulled pork” that people like MeCain can bring home. This is truly disheartening. I was hoping J.D. could pull it off and who knows? Maybe he can but these numbers ... I’m not going to live in a fantasy world. This is a Rasmussen poll, not crAP or Gallup.

*sigh*

The number of independents who vote in Arizona primaries is under 5% of the total. Usually around two and they are split both sides of the mainstream.

That crap, as you call it, happens to be the truth.

But if you need someone to blame because Hayworth couldn’t do the job, feel free.

I have to agree. Isn't it funny that we have term limits on the President but, when it comes to term limits for Congress, all of a sudden, it's "We already have term limits; it's called the ballot box!"

Nonsense! How can any citizen compete with an entrenched incumbent who amassed millions of dollars over the years and with a populace that votes primarily on name-recognition? We need term limits for Congress. Unfortunately, I doubt it will ever see the light of day.

Is this a poll of McCain staffers?

I was just working for 6 months in AZ and according to my unofficial survey that would seem about right.
