THE US government secretly advised Scottish ministers it would be "far preferable" to free the Lockerbie bomber than jail him in Libya.

Correspondence obtained by The Sunday Times reveals the Obama administration considered compassionate release more palatable than locking up Abdel Baset al-Megrahi in a Libyan prison.

Honestly, after 40 years I can’t remember if we frequented the Stone Elephant or the White Elephant...or both. I was acting CO of Security Company, Hq Bn., 1st Marine Division at the time (1969-70).

In 1970 the O Club at DaNang AB was known as the DOOM club and had the statue behind the bar that faced North when there was still aircrews up North and South when everybody was back was known as the DOOM Pussy...which as I recall a book was written about it. We didn’t go to the White Elephant much, usually reserving our antics to the DOOM club where it could be crazy....and I mean very crazy..... I doubt that the folks at the White Elephant would have put up with it...another favorite of ours was the China Beach club patio overlooking the beach.... Thanks for the memories...

My pal the PX officer for 1st Mar Div flew to Hong Kong to bring back a Honda generator which we used to run a blender which made margueritas for us on the beach...no annoying running back and forth getting drinks! We called it the Nurse Magnet, M1-A.

I don’t remember any “Stone Elephant” but then again there were lots of O clubs around DaNang at the various compounds...some of the funkiest, nastiness were the MAG O clubs across the runway. We went over there one night and they put on an animal act that can’t be described here... Worst thing about that was having to go by the mortuary at the north end of runway 18....I’ll never forget that smell that if the wind was blowing just right would wake you up big time.

Does the 83d EVAC ring a bell....we used to go over there and anger the Doc’s who thought they had a lock on the ladies...but we had airplanes that could carry pax... Dinner in Thailand was hard for them to refuse.... Training flights were good for morale....

He’s pro both. He’s only pro big oil if the drilling is done offshore in Brazil and Libya. Not the U.S.

Hugo Chavez likes the oil industry too. It’s not like 0baMao would have no use for it. I just thought I would point out that there are only two logical motivations for supporting this terrorists release. The “compassion” explanation is nothing but a load of horse manure.
