In 1970 the O Club at DaNang AB was known as the DOOM club and had the statue behind the bar that faced North when there was still aircrews up North and South when everybody was back was known as the DOOM Pussy...which as I recall a book was written about it. We didn’t go to the White Elephant much, usually reserving our antics to the DOOM club where it could be crazy....and I mean very crazy..... I doubt that the folks at the White Elephant would have put up with it...another favorite of ours was the China Beach club patio overlooking the beach.... Thanks for the memories...

My pal the PX officer for 1st Mar Div flew to Hong Kong to bring back a Honda generator which we used to run a blender which made margueritas for us on the beach...no annoying running back and forth getting drinks! We called it the Nurse Magnet, M1-A.

Stone Elephant vice White Elephant when I was there. I used to go to China Beach frequently for lunch. I went to the PX at Danang AB. Facilities expanded tremendously when I was there. I lived in Camp Tien Sha in some old French barracks with dirt streets. The placed improved dramatically by the time I left, July 4, 1968.
