SEVASTOPOL, Ukraine, July 24, 2010 (AFP) - Leaving a cloud of dust in his wake, a black-clad Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin roared into a rally in Ukraine on a Harley Davidson and hailed bikes as a "symbol of freedom".
Putin drove into the rally of bikers on the southern Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea astride a gigantic three-wheeled Lehman trike conversion Harley Davidson motorbike, wearing dark glasses and waving his black gloved hands.

Never understood the attraction of those. The lean angle to me is a major coolness factor on a street bike (especially on a sport bike, in addition to the acceleration. But he seems to be in a Harley world there).

Really a Harley? Man, what a patriotic American Putin is. USSR had no good motorcycles. The Central Planners just didn't see them as necessary. Only Ural was manufactured, as far as I know, and that was a German design from 1940. The rest was all import. So if a Russian citizen today wants a motorcycle, he has a wide selection of foreign models.

The difference is that Putin is a staunch patriot while Obama licks the boots of the people who laugh at him behind his back. Much like actors.

KGB tend to be that way. Pity we don’t have those types running our country.

I wonder how successful a person could be if they sold foreign motorcycles in Russia.

It would be interesting to see a report on the condition of the roads in the old Soviet Union member states. I read one time that the roads outside the main cities were atrocious. Of course, most of the people didn’t have cars, so bad road conditions hardly mattered. But if the ex-Soviet states want to increase the numbers of tourists, they might think about improving the road conditions. Any Russians or Ukrainians that can help us out with this?

It's a sad day when a Russian former KGB agent acts more like an American than the alleged POTUS sitting in the White House. By a mile.
