Breitbart hits NAACP with promised video of racism (This Is Really Bad)

The NAACP is about to learn one of the most basic of all lessons in life — those who live in glass houses should avoid provoking a stone-throwing war. After the civil-rights organization threatened to issue a condemnation of Tea Party activism by equating it with racism (a position from which they ultimately retreated), Andrew Breitbart announced that he would publish at least one video of the NAACP itself cheering racism. Breitbart delivers on that promise today at Big Government, showing USDA official Shirley Sherrod explain to an appreciative NAACP audience in July 2009 how she deliberately withheld information from a white farmer in Georgia trying to save his land and his business:

Quit projecting and speak for yourself. I see people. I see people with feelings and aspirations. I see people with children and pets. I see people who enjoy sports and other activities. Well, maybe if your not a Steeler, Penguin or #29 fan I might wonder what is wrong with you.

Both animals and people typically give preference to their own kind, that is simply the way the brain works, probably to assist in the continutation of the species.

Think very long and hard about this statement you made. There were many others throughout history who have said the same thing. I would not want to associate with them.

He was probably talking to her in an educated manner and she simply felt inferior. I think that's the trouble with many at the NAACP.

She might have felt that a farmer should talk like an uneducated backwoods hillbilly. Instead he probably talked like the college-educated small business owner that he is, and probably used some big words she didn't know. Well, she taught HIM to try to make her feel inferior.

Thank you for your educated explanation. However, we are talking about a single species here. Some contend that race does not exist physically but only psychologically/sociologically. So endogamy refers to social grouping, not physical, which could infer racial separatism.

Beyond the shock of her racist comments, I noticed that she made a statement about learning that it is not about race, but about money. In other words, she was schooled by someone that to be a good progressive/revolutionary, that economic justice and social justice are the motivating factors.

So, in her words, the race battles have been replaced by the more progressive social and economic battles. If we are to stay in the game, we need to change our tactics as well.

Shirley Sherrod (to serve as USDA Rural Development Georgia State Director) - Since 1985, Sherrod has served as Director of the Georgia Field Office for the Federation of Southern Cooperative/Land Assistance Fund. She has also served as Georgia State Lead for the Southern Rural Black Women’s’ Initiative for Economic and Social Justice. From 1999-2000, Sherrod served as Executive Director for Community Alliances of Interdependent Agriculture, Inc., in Albany, Ga. Sherrod has more than 15 years experience working with agriculture-focused organizations. Sherrod received a B.A. in Sociology from Albany State University in Albany, Ga., and a M.A. in Community Development from Antioch University in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

Rural Development administers and manages over 40 housing, business, and community infrastructure and facility programs as laid out by Congress through a network of 6,100 employees located in 500 national, state and local offices. These programs are designed to improve the economic stability of rural communities, businesses, residents, farmers and ranchers and improve the quality of life in rural America. Rural Development has an existing portfolio of over $114 billion in loans and loan guarantees.

RDLN Graduate and Board Vice Chair Shirley Sherrod was appointed Georgia Director for Rural Development by Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack on July 25. Only days earlier, she learned that New Communities, a group she founded with her husband and other families (see below) has won a thirteen million dollar settlement in the minority farmers law suit Pigford vs Vilsack.

Shirley is a graduate in the first group of RDLN Leaders and serves as Vice Chair of our Board of Directors.  She earned her master's degree from Antioch through RDLN, has helped orient every group of RDLN participants, and has taken leadership in many other ways.  She serves as Georgia lead for both the Federation of Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance Fund and the Southern Rural Black Women's Initiative (SRBWI).
