Venus Williams Defies Michelle Obama’s Claim That Obesity Is a Race Issue
Nanny State Liberation Front ^ | July 14, 2010 | Nanny State Liberation Front

While addressing the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) this week, First Lady Michelle Obama declared obesity a threat to black Americans comparable to oppressive racial policies of the past. Instead of citing positive black role models who refuse to fall victim to a supposed threat that is ‘terrorizing’ their race, Mrs. Obama instigated another racial struggle for the civil rights organization to unnecessarily embed itself.

“We are living today in a time where we’re decades beyond slavery, we are decades beyond Jim Crow; when one of the greatest risks to our children’s future is their own health,” Mrs. Obama told the NAACP on July 12. “African American children are significantly more likely to be obese than are white children.”

One African American who did not allow herself to fall victim to the so called obesity ‘epidemic’ is Venus Williams, a professional tennis player who has won three Olympic gold medals and seven Grand Slam singles titles. Williams is a shining example of a black American child who thwarted the health threats posed by foods Mrs. Obama and her fellow food cops claim are this generation’s most notorious genocidal murderers.

In the July issue of Bon Appétit magazine, Williams shares her secrets for how she “fuels up for her work on and off the court.” Williams reveals she is not afraid of the poisonous foods that Mrs. Obama and radical food “watchdog” groups like the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) are waging war against.

“Ruth’s Chris is my favorite restaurant, and I always order the rib eye, medium-rare,” said Williams, which undoubtedly makes the anti-meat PCRM cringe in fear for the tennis star’s life. According to the PCRM ...

MO is making a racial thing out of a universal problem: fat children. When I was in elementary school in the early 60's, there was only one fat kid, and a couple that were a little pudgy. Whenever I attend a school function of the grands, I am amazed how many kids are just plain huge, not a little fat but obese. At least 50% are overweight to some degree. This will lead to lifelong problems for these kids if allowed to go unchecked.

Can you envision the feeding frenzy which would occur in the media if Nancy Reagan or Barbara Bush addressed a white convention and spoke only to white concerns?

We have a racist president and first lady, which in the good old days would have booted them out of Washington!
Something is definitely wrong with the way our voting laws have turned. The people are dumbed down by the public schools, brainwashed from kindergarten on up with the party line, or these two would never have dazzled the star kissed masses to vote them into office!

A president is to be president to ALL of the people rather than playing the race card to divide the country into a vulnerable position in order to advance his far leftist agenda!

“Michelle Obama needs to mind her own business and keep quiet a little more.”

I guess that’s a classy way of saying that M.O. needs to STFU.

I have a vague recollection that my favorite history professor used to talk about how obesity is not a new thing. He said there were plenty of overweight persons in the US in the 1800s. I don’t have photos or stats.

I am sure that many of them do martial arts. Plus running around on their feet all day burn calories.

As far as Venus Williams is concerned, there is no mystery. If you exercised as much as she does, you too could eat any damn thing you wanted.

Not necessarily ... when Charles Barkley was running up and down NBA courts, he was still fat, the nickname "The Round Mound of Rebound" wasn't made up for no reason -- I remember him dieting in the middle of a season, that had to be difficult on him. It depends on your metabolism as well.

Pieter Bruegel, German artist, was famous for painting “fat” Germans in the 16th century.

Remindes me of a Monty Python sketch.

No shoes on our feet...

You had feet? You were lucky. We didn't. We had to walk on our stumps!

"I think Michelle would be better served if she got rid of her own fat butt."

That plus getting rid of the fat 'America's Doctor - the Surgeon General'.

How about 'do what I say & not what I do'!!!

Pictures all over the internet of the Obama's scarfing down junk food & ice cream every chance they get are making Michelle look like a fool!!

>I’m thinking the recent explosion of monstrous obesity in recent years is a combination of the internet, proliferating cable channels, handheld electronic entertainment doodads (and the commensurate lack of sleep and correspondingly deranged appetite), the microwave and the disappearance of family dining.<

So many people have desk jobs so they get no exercise. Add that to the fact that we Americans can no longer let our kids out to play for the day, and your post is very true.

Not to mention the fact that every blasted packaged food is now loaded with sugar and corn syrup.

“Maybe we don’t want to live until someone has to feed us our strained peas with a spoon.”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Faron Young wanted to, “Live Fast, Love Hard, Die Young and Leave a Beautiful Memory”, in later years he sang, “Live Fast, Love Hard and Die FARON Young” because he considered himself too old to die young. I suppose I am too old to die young but the advantages of dying while still vigorous are more attractive every day. I don’t want to be remembered as a lump lying in a bed 24 hours a day. I suppose I could always go and play in traffic.

Although fast food and packaged foods and TV dinners have been around for more than just a little while, their WHOLESALE usage by the American public has greatly increased in the last 20/30 years. My family has worked in the grocery store business for many years and the freezer section is one of the fastest growing and largest sections of the market place today - where as, 30/40 years ago, it was only one aisle. So this is part of the problem.

The fact that more and more people live in the city or a “burb” environment which has limited space for the kids to run and play has contributed.

The fact that abductions have increased steadily, by which more and more parents won’t allow their kids out of their own yard has contributed.

The fact that EVERY person’s metabolism is different and until you know yours, then you should be moderate in your intake of foods creates problems.

The fact that more and more families get 90+% of their food from cans and bags instead of home canning and home baking which was the norm until the late-seventies contributes.

The fact that more families are two working-parent families, so the kids are not cooked home meals, are not taken to the park or outside on a regular basis is part of the problem.

These are ALL parts of the problem and there are many which I did not list. There is no ONE problem which has created the situation we are in. And until and unless we address ALL of these issues, complaining or OUTLAWING hi-fructose corn syrup or urban sprawl or any ONE problem is NOT going to solve this problem.

Bottom line: make your own food, eat moderately and exercise moderately (or better) and your weight will be okay!
