I don’t know if something in the underwater surveys spooked them but it stopped em dead in their tracks.

That’s a very educational website, by the way. I’m bookmarking it.

I have heard that the government stopped all progress until they give their approval. Anyone else heard this?

The update last night from Kelly Sweeney on Coast To Coast AM didn't sound encouraging. There is concern about what to do if oil leaks from around the casing when things get sealed up during the test. Sweeney also reports more gas masks being distributed to workers as methane levels rise. The official press reports are "happy talk" that doesn't reflect the concerns about the actual work in progress.

I was working on a project with a new Sun 640MP server. The disk drives for the data were all new and needed formatting and partitioning. This was 1992 technology...not very fast. The drives were a few hours into the formatting process when the inept director of operations walks onto the server room floor. He says he heard this was a "turn key" system. Seeing a key on the server, the bone head turned it. It was the master power switch. We lost a whole day of installation time.

I heard that the CG had stopped the work until its impact could be analyzed.

I am always wary when the government gets involved - this government in particular. Their order to cease the sealing process may be on the up and up, but I question it. More than likely there is something political involved, not science!

he heard this was a "turn key" system Yep, he had no business in the server room touching anything. Typical of the arrogance of some managers that their title gives them knowledge far above their techies, who actually are working their butts off in an effort to help them look good.
About late 90's, we purchased a big Raid-5 Rack, something like 76 hard-drives. We wanted the wholesaler to deliver it and install it on site before we took possession.
Procurement over-ruled that decision and said for security reasons, the large 'computer item' would be delivered to their off-site warehouse and their guys would bring it by. We got a call that the procurement guys had just left it on the dock, come down and get it. Someone noticed a few dents and scratches. We had the service rep come out and look at it, and he said they had delivered it crated and intact.
Finally one of the guy made the decision to plug it in and see if the drives would even churn. They churned all right. The unit had been knocked over on its side and all of the hard drives began eating themselves to death from all the internal damage.
The bottom line, we lost the Raid box, and Procurement would not replace it, denying they had done anything wrong.
When it is technical, and you don't know what you are doing, don't play games and pretend. Kind of reminds me of a certain resident on Penn Ave., DC

Too bad you couldn’t hold procurement liable
for the damage they did. The manager responsible
should have been canned and his salary seized to
cover the cost of the damaged server. That
would have been a just solution.

It was 3:30 PM in the afternoon when the guy turned the key. We had been formatting since 8 AM. 16 dual port IPI drives. The sad part is that all of the drives were defective. Seagate forgot to install the filters. Over a period of a few weeks, every drive crashed as contaminants made it inside. We pulled all the drives and checked against the serial numbers. All bad. They had to be physically disassembled and the platters dropped in acid due to the classified data on them. What a goat rope.

Now that is Ugly....
You don't have one of those giant Degausser's?
I think that is what they were called at a classified installation I was a Tech Rep on...
Actually never saw it used though.( That was a number of years ago.)
I just heard they had some way of taking care of those kind of problems.
To: Ernest_at_the_Beach
The only approved method for that level of
classified is the acid tank. Paper goes to a
crosscut shredder, then burn bag.

So far, there are multiple rumors as to why they stopped.
Pressure test didn’t hold.
Leaks from around base of BOP.
Seismic Scan and Sonar Scans of seafloor.
Faulty choke valve in #3 Ram (this is most likely)
Visit by Chu.
White House ‘ordered’ more tests, more time on tests.
ANY OR ALL OF THESE COULD BE TRUE.
