John McCain on the Democratic Party ("I think that the Democratic Party is a fine party")
Boston Herald / MSNBC via Snopes / Newsmax ^ | April 2004

(snip)

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Senator McCain, here's what you said about the Republican Party in the Boston Herald: "I believe my party has gone astray. I think the Democratic Party is a fine party, and I have no problems with it, in their views and their philosophy." Did the Herald get you right?

SEN. MCCAIN: No.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: You didn't say that?

SEN. MCCAIN: I said that, but let me put it in the proper context. I was speaking to some constituents of Congressman Marty Meehan. The question [was]: Why don't you run as Senator Kerry's running mate? I am a Teddy Roosevelt Republican and [an] Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt Republican. I will not leave my party.

Now I think that the Democratic Party is a fine party. I still think we need a two-party system in this country. I don't want to be a Democrat. I'm proud of my party and its heritage. That article in the Boston Herald was the most taken out of context, several quotes, some of which you'll probably give me ...

Well, to be fair, as a political party, qua political party, the Democratic Party is a much better party than the Republican Party. It's such a shame that our country is afflicted with the circumstance where the better political party is the one peddling ideas detrimental to the freedom, prosperity, and moral order of the country, while the one generally on the side of right is so blasted ineffective as a political party (thanks largely to RINOs like McCain).

Okay, Mr. McStupid,

If this is a case then please change your party affiliation to that which you believe is so fine; no great loss when this POS departs the land of the living; please keep in mind Mr. McShame has done more to kill fellow citizens than some of our enemies!

It is hard to believe that this clown was our selected candidate for POTUS

With history as a guide, the GOP has been moving progressively LEFT every Presidential cycle. In that case, who is the GOP gonna want for their candidate ... Olympia Snowe???

I think the North Vietnamese used a vacuum pump to clean out whatever McCain had in his cranium.

I often wonder what Capitol Hill has done to him that the vietcong couldnt.

It’s amazing to me that John McPain got this far with those brains.

He’s got to run out of luck soon.

“It is hard to believe that this clown was our selected candidate for POTUS the last time around?”

Volunteer for your local GOP organization and take it back.

I think the machine wanted Romney.

The BS open primaries got McCain in though.

Sort of a choice between typhus and cholera.

The conservative base may be tired of him. The faceless apparatchiki and dead souls who infest the GOP machine are not.

Senator McCain and Candidate Romney will be appearing together for photo ops in 2011.

Anything good about the Democrat party died with JFK. McCain is just a Democrat at heart.
