CHRIS MATTHEWS: Senator McCain, here's what you said about the Republican Party in the Boston Herald: "I believe my party has gone astray. I think the Democratic Party is a fine party, and I have no problems with it, in their views and their philosophy." Did the Herald get you right?
SEN. MCCAIN: No.
CHRIS MATTHEWS: You didn't say that?
SEN. MCCAIN: I said that, but let me put it in the proper context. I was speaking to some constituents of Congressman Marty Meehan. The question [was]: Why don't you run as Senator Kerry's running mate? I am a Teddy Roosevelt Republican and [an] Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt Republican. I will not leave my party.
Now I think that the Democratic Party is a fine party. I still think we need a two-party system in this country. I don't want to be a Democrat. I'm proud of my party and its heritage. Maybe he thinks he can do the Democrat party more good while on the inside of the Republican party.
He and Lieberman make a good pair.

Trying to follow Queeg’s mental processes has left me with a bad case of whiplash.
The original:
You got that right.
“and [an] Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt Republican.”
Uh huh. Those two would be ashamed to hear you speak that way, McShame.
I believe McCain passed his prime a long time ago! He doesn’t seem to be very alert and his thinking on the issues borders on the absurd side at times!
McCain does not want to join the democrat party - he just wants to vote the way they do.
Before election day, McCain also said “we have nothing to fear from an Obama presidency.”
Oh yeah, that’s worked out well....
It is hard to believe that this clown was our selected candidate for POTUS the last time around?
Yep, two midgets with bad tempers and scrambled brains.
McCain is so disgusting. He is a Democrat.
If he’s not gone in nov then i am.
Figurativly speaking of corse...
He has such good judgment. /s
His problem is he is a “ Senator “ first, a Republican second and conservative somewhere down the list....
Time to go home and enjoy retirement.
It's always good to know what John McCain is thinking.
Now, I'm comfortable believing the opposite...
