Republican congressional candidate says planned mosque a threat to state's 'moral and political foundation'
WASHINGTON, June 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A prominent national Islamic civil rights and advocacy organization today called on Republican Party leaders to repudiate Islamophobic remarks by a GOP congressional candidate in Tennessee who claims the construction of a new mosque poses a threat to that state's "moral and political foundation."

The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said Republican candidate Lou Ann Zelenik issued a statement yesterday denouncing plans to build a new mosque in Murfreesboro, Tenn. [Zelenik also says she is a leader in the Middle Tennessee tea party movement.]
In her statement, Zelenik backed opponents of the proposed mosque, which she referred to as "an Islamic training center." She even denied the religious nature of the mosque, claiming it "is not part of a religious movement; it is a political movement designed to fracture the moral and political foundation of Middle Tennessee."

Zelenik Issues Statement on Proposed Islamic center
The planned mosque has been targeted by extremists who have made a number of bigoted comments about Islam and Muslims. Yesterday, CAIR called on law enforcement authorities to investigate a second incident of vandalism at the mosque site as a possible hate crime.

Last night, anti-mosque protesters tried to disrupt a peace vigil held in support of the local Muslim community and of religious tolerance.

"State and national Republican leaders must repudiate Ms. Zelenik's extremist and un-American remarks and address the growing perception that their party promotes Islamophobia and intolerance against minorities," said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad. "We thank all those who turned out last night in Murfreesboro to express support for religious freedom."
He noted that CAIR's Connecticut chapter recently urged state Republican leaders to distance themselves from a candidate seeking the GOP nomination for that state's Fourth Congressional District, who said: "It turns out, folks, they [Muslims] are here, they're among us. We are at war with Islam."
Awad said CAIR called on national Republican leaders to repudiate similarly Islamophobic campaign advertisements for a Florida GOP congressional candidate.

CAIR's Oklahoma chapter is also challenging the bizarre claim by a Republican state legislator that Muslims seek to impose Islamic law in that state.

CAIR said American Muslims are concerned that Islamophobic statements by elected officials or candidates for public office are contributing to an overall rise in anti-Muslim sentiment and incidents nationwide.
Just last night, CAIR's Washington State chapter reported that a van with advertisements about Islam on its exterior and parked near a mosque was apparently smeared with feces.

It’s time somebody in the GOP leadership just state the obvious. CAIR is an Islamic front organization designed to divide and conquer America, using our freedoms and laws against us. They’re about as moderate as Iran’s president.
CAIR, or what is left of them or whatever they are now calling themselves is nothing more than a 5th column, representing a military and quasi governmental movement disguised as a social organization!
Anything that CAIR, Muslims or Islamists don’t want hear, even about fact and truth they deem phobic. Frack the filth of the supposed Allah, Mohammad and Islam for the petty little thugs they are! And the faster we get there the faster this human debris will stop their crap.
Islamophobic (noun): A fear of being murdered by sociopathic members of a crazed Medieval religious sect, who don't feel that Western laws apply to them and their "religion".
I’ve been to Murfreesboro...Nice, small Southern city. Lots of Churches. I’ve preached there before a few times. Even took some Grad courses at MTSU there....
The Progressive community at the University pretty much guarantees there WILL be a mosque in Murfreesboro. And we can’t get around the old First Amendment now can we? :-D
I would also add that I CARE little for CAIR as well. However, if the people involved in the planning, building and running of the mosque are not demonstrably linked to terrorist organizations or fundraising groups FOR terrorist organizations, and if they are American Citizens, then they have the same Constitutional rights to worship freely, to build their mosque, to train their children in their religion as do Chrisitans, or Jews, or Hindus, or Sikhs, or Buddhists, or others...
But if they find just ONE of the folks involved is dirty, the State ought to shut it down so fast it’ll make the President’s head spin all the way up in Washington! Because we ALL know that the FEDS won’t touch it with a THOUSAND MILE court order.
And publish the names, addresses and phone numbers of all the contractors bidding on and building it.
And info on any financial institutions involved on any mortgages involved.
This will be badly needed information.
This group reportedly has only a few thousand actual members as opposed to “paper” members. They are the perfect example of what a communist “front” was, a few handpicked leaders and sympathizers,plus some dupes under them.
We used to call them “phone-booth” operations because you could fit all their actual members in a phone-booth.
CAIR, MSA, AADC, OAAS, etc. used to have tens of thousands of members in the past, or so they claimed, but when it comes down to crediblity, they only number a few thousand at the most for each group.
However, many of them are jihadists or supporters of jihad, Sharia Law, honor killings, Hamas and Hezbullah, esp. in Michigan - Dearborn and Detroit. In fact, the PLO had its biggest beachead in Dearborn and the Palestine Human Rights Campaign led by the Jim and John Zogby brothers, aided and abetted by the Communist Party USA (CPUSA).
Today CAIR functions much like the CPUSA’s old legal fronts, the National Lawyers Guild and the National Emergency Civil Liberties Committee, and the NLG-offshoot, the Center for Constitutional Rights. Their goal is to destroy the US internal security program, to keep terrorists and their supporters out of jail, and to blame Israel, Jews, Christians, and loyal Americans for all the ills of the world.
CAIR is the Trojan Horse at the gate. Actually they are inside the gate. Therefore we must expose them before they can successfully spew forth their poisonous cargo.
