Kagan notes label KKK and NRA as 'bad guy' organizations

Washington (CNN) -- A conservative magazine suggests Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan is "hostile" to gun owners, based on notes she wrote in the Clinton White House in 1996.

The notes were released last week by the William J. Clinton Presidential Library. Kagan worked in the White House Counsel's office in 1995 and 1996. Kagan, 50, was nominated to the high court May 10 by President Obama, and her confirmation hearings begin June 28.

The disclosure coincided with the release Friday afternoon of about 80,000 more documents.

A March 1996 document is likely to stir conservative anger. In it, she labeled the Ku Klux Klan and the National Rifle Association as "bad guy" organizations.

The issue was a pending bill, the Volunteer Protection Act, which gave some volunteer workers from a range of nonprofits a measure of liability protection from lawsuits. Kagan expressed concern that certain groups might be included in a "Cumulative List" of tax-exempt groups that would be covered under the proposed law.

Kagan addressed her handwritten thoughts, based on a conversation with Clinton aide Fran Allegra, who responded that day that neither the KKK nor the NRA was on the list provided by the Internal Revenue Service. Allegra gently advised his colleague, "We probably need to be careful about suggesting 'bad' organizations will qualify for the provision bill as it would suggest we are allowing 'bad' organizations to qualify for tax-exempt status." The measure was passed into law in 1997, but ultimately vetoed by Congress. Allegra is now a federal judge.

The National Review first reported about the notes, and asked on its website, "Is Kagan so hostile to gun rights that she would compare the top gun-rights organization in the United States with a viciously racist hate group?"

The White House issued a response Friday...

After the Disclose Act fiasco, the NRA better score the vote foe Kagan's nomination.

It is the liberal behavior to always compare apples and orange such as denigrating two completely different and unrelated organizations and label them as “bad” or evil.

This is the liberal philosophy and methodology.

And for people who buy into this are absolute morons.

It IS nice for Kagan to note that the Democrat run KKK is not a nice group of people. The NRA hasn’t lynched anyone, stopped them from voting, enslaved them, stopped them from eating in a public restaurant, established white and black drinking fountains, made people ride in the back of the bus, forbid them from attending public schools, or disarmed them so that they couldn’t defend themselves. So tell me Kagan, WTF have the Democrats done for blacks that is so good? MMM MMM MMM

She has no judicial experience...

Oh great. So she follows in the footsteps of her inexperienced Svengali at the head shed.

It's easy to say what one would do in another's position, but I hope every Republican returns Barry's favor to the Bush II administration and votes against this nominee and any others without comment. To me it's not even relevant that she appears to be a far-left loon.

Absolutely!

Just learned an interesting little fact about Sotomayor that should have been made public before she was allowed to soil the bench - she's bankrupt (she owes more than she has) and has run up $60,000 in credit card debt, according to her recently-released financial disclosure. Federal judges, even those below the Supreme Court, make a comfortable living, so the fact that she still managed to run up so much credit card debt and is technically bankrupt means that she has really poor judgment; certainly too poor to legitimately trust her with a position that depends on good judgment in the way that being a justice on the Supreme Court does. Apparently, the "wise latina" ain't quite so wise.

Kagan should do her homework before she put's her foot in her mouth. It was the democrats that started the KKK. It was progressive and founder of Baby Butchers R Us (aka Planned Parenthood) Margaret "Eugenics" Sanger that spoke at Klan rallies.

Why the **** do black vote for democrats I will never know.

Democrats started the KKK. Democrats lynched blacks.

And now these stupid black people are voting for the same people who hung ‘em by the bushel.

Go figure.

A woman who is wrong about American history has no business being a justice of the Supreme Court let alone a judge period.

if they can lump KKK and NRA into the same group, it wont be too long before Tea Party people are labeled as homegrown terrorists.

We knew that we would get someone like this nominated to the SC on election night. Elections have consequences.
