Laura Wojcik's little girl, Elizabeth, is due Saturday. So imagine her surprise when she learned she'd have to find another doctor for the delivery and find one in just one day.

"I was pretty upset because I love going here and everything. They're good doctors, and then I had to change," said Wojcik.

A doctor from the Norwich OB-GYN Group will be on call this weekend, but inside the office, the waiting room is empty, and there are no doctors in the exam rooms. The office stopped taking patients Thursday when it decided it could no longer meet the financial demands of running the practice.

"We've had a reduction in reimbursement from the state-funded insurances, because the budget situation, things had slowed down, so April, May were very slow, and June continued to be slow," said Bernadette Grecki, the practice administrator.

Add to that the payments from the largest state-funded insurance provider wouldn't be arriving till July, and the office says it had no choice but to close.

"It was too much for the doctor. He realized he couldn't keep funding the practice," said Grecki.

The group says it is working with other OB-GYN's in the area to accommodate patients, and the files of pregnant patients who are at 32 weeks or more have already been transferred to Backus Hospital, so doctors will be prepared when the women go into labor.

Lets see - this ais about my tenth post today that states:

“No thinking person can be surprised.”

Socialism and irresponsibility always end up in the same place - this is predictable.

We’re going to see more and more “Foreign” doctors.

Then “unexpectedly” there will be a doctor shortage.

No problem. the gubbermint will simply take over, and tell Doctors where to work. Then, like Merrie Olde England, we can import a horde of half-assed moslem quacks from Pockee-stawn to make up the rest of the shortage.

Healthcare the obama way.

My doc retired due to Obamacare. He said would if it passed.
He is a man of his word.

I dunno. I know some doctors who hate the Usurper with a hard and gemlike flame.

So, Willie my boy, how many employees do you have?
In other words, how many jobs have YOU created for other people?

What difference does that make?
The doctor isn't employing anybody or creating any jobs.
Sounds more like he just abandoned them to fend for themselves.
Heck, he didn't even stick around long enough to be interviewed for this article.

the lines for OB/GYN doctors just got a tiny bit longer.

What the John Edwards tort-shysters didn't kill off, the obamacare nazis will.

Women of childbearing age should prepare for having only midwives and nurse practitioners attending births. Of course many more babies will die unnecessarily, but that's the price of "reform."

Wow... I expected more from you. That was completely clueless with a little tinge of class envy thrown in.

It's not an entirely clueless opinion.
I'm very aware of what out of control health care costs have done to our nation's manufacturing sector.
And I've seen the detailed itemized bills for what it cost to implant a defibrilator in my chest.
So I really don't have much sympathy for cardiologists.
I'm sure that their household budget isn't quite as tight as mine.

You got it right about the AMA, but the majority of academic docs are not liberals. They may start off that way, but after a couple years of crap, they turn conservative.

Are you kidding? Who do you think answers the phone at the office? Who files the insurance claims? Who takes histories and vitals and draws samples for labs? Who fills out all the paperwork for labs and referrals? Who orders all the supplies and keeps stock updated? There are many jobs associated with every doctor in practice. How many people do you see in your doctor’s office on any given day? They are not just hanging out, they are employed there.

Dollars to doughnuts, they'll be affirmative action doctors.

Brought to you by Barack Obama, the Affirmative Action DictatorTM.

Cheers!

"It was too much for the doctor. He realized he couldn't keep funding the practice," said Grecki.

How dare he, what is he some kind of a capitalist? I sure the Obama administration will remove his license so he can't work at all. Now maybe things could be worked out to keep him and his family out of jail if he agrees to put all of his fund in escrow so his poor patients can get treated elsewhere.

The doctor isn’t employing anyone or creating any jobs...

Are you really that ignorant? Or just think you are cute. You tell me who pays for the staff- nurses, lab, insurance personnel, building, supplies etc etc and then some more etc when a doctor has his own clinic.

My daughter’s OB-GYN quit. Could no longer afford the malpractice insurance.

My doctor closed last fall. He was 58. He said he was going broke and fed up with Medicare and drug company shenanigans.

My sister’s doctor quit in March. Couldn’t handle the patient load.

My first doctor retired when he was about 77. He lived to be about 98 in good health except for the normal problems that come with old age. I went to him for 20 years for everything. He delivered and took care of my two children. He did not prescribe much medicine and I was NEVER sent for a test in those 20 years. He checked my urine in his office and checked my blood count in his office. He performed several in-office procedures on me over the years. He worked with one LPN assistant who also managed his accounts.

Did either of you two bother to read the article???
There are still plenty of other doctors who employ nurses and receptionists and whatever,
BUT NOT THE ONE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT.
He bailed out of his practice, and left his employees in the lurch.

Sheeesh...

Do you actually want care from someone forced to give it at the point of a gun? Are you comfortable with physicians being forced into slavery?

Do you really think you or anyone else is going to benefit from this sort of system?

Be prepared to wait for months for a Medicaid doctor, then to take the first one assigned to you, whom you will never see again. Your health will be subject to the exact same inhumane considerations that the doctors are being subjected to. If it isn’t in the law, specifically, it isn’t available, at any price. You may not go outside the system. Need a specialist? You may be forced to keep an appointment hundreds of miles away at the time available, not the time convenient, and at your own expense. Too ill to travel? Tough. A glitch keeps the doctor from seeing you at the appointed time and place? Back to the end of the line. Can’t afford to travel? Tough. That wonderful high speed train you keep posting about? It will be out of service because no one can afford it or because the government union workers have struck for more vacation time.

Absolutely everyone is going to suffer for all of this evil. Including you, those you love, if there are any such, and eventually, even the elite will have to worry about their health care providers.

How important are you to the system? Why are you willing to die for it?

I believe you were banned once before. Maybe you need to go away, again.

I’m sure the abortion mills will never be short of funding for “free” abortions under Mengelecare.
Ironic, isn’t it?
