Laura Wojcik's little girl, Elizabeth, is due Saturday. So imagine her surprise when she learned she'd have to find another doctor for the delivery and find one in just one day.
"I was pretty upset because I love going here and everything. They're good doctors, and then I had to change," said Wojcik.
A doctor from the Norwich OB-GYN Group will be on call this weekend, but inside the office, the waiting room is empty, and there are no doctors in the exam rooms. The office stopped taking patients Thursday when it decided it could no longer meet the financial demands of running the practice.
"We've had a reduction in reimbursement from the state-funded insurances, because the budget situation, things had slowed down, so April, May were very slow, and June continued to be slow," said Bernadette Grecki, the practice administrator.
Add to that the payments from the largest state-funded insurance provider wouldn't be arriving till July, and the office says it had no choice but to close.
"It was too much for the doctor. He realized he couldn't keep funding the practice," said Grecki.
The group says it is working with other OB-GYN's in the area to accommodate patients, and the files of pregnant patients who are at 32 weeks or more have already been transferred to Backus Hospital, so doctors will be prepared when the women go into labor.

RE: “Im sure a lot of baby boomer docs will figure out its time to retire rather than work for Baraqqi wages and pay Baraqqi taxes.
Then unexpectedly there will be a doctor shortage”
*******************
That’s already begun here in the Los Angeles area — numerous docs have already closed up shop!
RE: “Yeah, seems Im gettin older at precisely the wrong time.”

Yes, many boomers in the same boat. Pity that so many boomers loved and voted for Zero (not me!) and now look where we are!
A very accurate summary. I would say also that he not only fails as FR material --- he is a socialist (possibly unionist) plant on FR. Having been outed as such some years ago, he stopped posting overtly socialist propaganda and focuses now on his other toy -- high-speed rail. He does not discuss that issue either: if he does say something, it is usually some cliches and snide remarks. The purpose here is to change your mind; like all good socialist, he works towards paving the way for more government.
He did claim once to be an engineer but, when challenged, appears unable to handle any of the material (e.g., mathematics and economics) that engineering students pass during freshman year.
In essence, he is a fraud, and a cheap one at that. He is now sufficiently careful, however, not to be banned. If your and mine posts spare some time of other FReepers who otherwise may be tempted to debate Willie, I'll be very happy.
Aetna just cut their payments to doctors by 1/3.
Probably thinking of Comsmetic ‘plastic’ surgeons. They get the high fees for their breast lifts, fanny tucks and lipo sucks; all elective and unnecessary surgery.
Real doctors make about what i made as an airline pilot, $175-230,000. And they work hard at it. And pay a lot of it out for malpractice insurance.
We already have ‘affirmative action’ doctors. Most minority doctors (exception for asians) had extremely lower MCAT and undergraduate grades compared to their non-minority colleagues. These minority doctors were granted a spot in their medical school class, not earn it like their peers.
Don’t believe me?
“Mean MCAT scores for White students ranged from 8.0 to 8.5; for Blacks 4.8 to 5.6. Of this sample of medical students, 4.7 percent of the Whites and 28.5 percent of the Blacks experienced academic difficulty” 1
“In 2005 the mean combined score for black students who took the Medical College Admission Test was 21.2. (Each of the three sections of the MCAT test is scored on a scale of 1 to 15.) For whites, the mean score on the combined three portions of the MCAT test was 28.5. Therefore, the white score was about 18 percent higher than the mean score for blacks. The racial gap in MCAT scores has been virtually unchanged for the past decade. The mean total college grade point average for black applicants to medical school in 2005 was 3.18. For whites, the average GPA was 3.54. If we examine grades in the all-important science courses, the mean black GPA was 2.99. For whites, the figure is 3.44. “ 2

Medicine is one of the few fields were you are actually paid less for the same procedure as you were 5, 10 years ago.
Do you think plumbers, electricians, cops, teachers, etc are going to be paid 1/3 less this week?
DB, why would you expect more? I mean, after all, this is Willie Green we're talking about.
Soon we will be seeing cash only doctors. They will not accept insurance or Medicare, and you will pay upfront for a visit. Actually this sounds good to me. I would sign a waver that I can never sue em to get a Dr. actually interested in healing me instead of treating my symptoms.
To your post #7
“Obamas answer;
You want loans for med school, you do time here during and after.”

I followed the link and in the sidebar clicked on “ What are the requirements “. Here is the page content, OMG!
What are the Requirements?
Put your health-related training into practice with the Commissioned Corps. To qualify for the Commissioned Corps, you must:
* Be a U.S. citizen
* Be less than 44 years of age
* Be medically qualified
* Have a current, unrestricted professional license (if applicable)
* Have a qualifying degree or a higher degree from an accredited institution (varies depending on occupation)
http://www.usphs.gov/aboutus/questions.aspx#requirements
What jumps off the page?
The Commissioned Corps is discriminating based on age. Clearly illegal, no?
PS This is the first time I’d run across a site using LISTSERV other than the JOURNOLIST.
Sorry, but I am not following your post reference. On this thread post #7 is by "awakened". Perhaps you are referencing another post.
BTW, the info you provided is just a part of the discrimination in the bill. It requires Nursing, Medical and Health Science school to use quotas based on demographics of the local population.
When I was a pharma rep, I made more net money than many of the primary care physicians that I was visiting.
The specialists are typically in another league, though. At our med school here in Oregon, in the 2008 class, only ONE student was studying to be a primary care/internist. Everybody else was chasing specialty dollars.
Thank you trial lawyers and our courts and verdicts that continually provide their sustenance.
The # one reason for OB/GYN’s going out of business.
Doctors who deliver babies have the highest insurance costs period.
If there’s something wrong with the baby, it must be the doctors fault... Or so says the parent’s lawyer...
All doctors I know who are over 50 years of age have their financial escape plan. The question for them is when they will reach the tipping point.
nobamacare = stay healthy or die
Thanks a lot you DIM voters.
I've heard about these medical centers opening uop just off shore At least it's an option when bamacare ruins our healthcare system,.
My thought is to take care of any health issue that is necessary or desired before it’s too late.
If its elective get it done now
Good one. And poor Willie’s gone.
And they will do things that the FDA won’t approve without 20 years of study, preferring Americans die before letting them make their own medical decisions.
are you serious?? 7 on/7 off??
That is not working. I realize the stress can be phenominal, but many professons work over 60 hours a week for every week
and you just said 72 hours then 144 hours off?
Constantly working 12 hours days is tough, but a full week off in between??
