Sarah Palin says recreational pot smoking is "relatively speaking a minimal problem" in America.
...
"I think we need to prioritize our law enforcement efforts," she said. "If somebody's gonna smoke a joint in their house and not do anybody any harm, then perhaps there are other things our cops should be looking at to engage in and try to clean up some of the other problems we have in society."
Allen St. Pierre, the director of NORML, which supports liberalizing drug laws, said Palin's position on pot is perfectly in line with her identity as a politician.
"If you're a populist as she appears to be, it's maybe not that surprising," he told AOL News in a phone interview today.

My problem with smoking pot is that you’re pulling smoke into your lungs.
Excellent quote. J S Mill is *da man*!
You're welcome.
100% correct. But a pot decriminalization needs to include ALL drugs for all of the same reasons.
1.Eliminating dangerous ‘street forms’ of many as well as the black market which is responsible for all the crime, violence, and ultimately health related issues.
2.Alcohol related car accidents/deaths would decrease wildly.
3.prisons would under populate
4.mexico would have jobs
5.government makes money on taxing instead of losing Billions on policing and not taxing one of the nations largest economies.
6.cotton and lumber, two of the environmentally destructive industries get relief from a cheaper and easier to produce fiber.
7.citizens are given an opportunity to take responsibility for themselves and make their own choices.
those just a few of the benefits, we could probably end up paying cash for some of the great stuff our Government buys one day!
oh wait I forgot, we need jobs for the DEA, Coast Guard, 90% of police, and a host of other clowns getting paid so we have a way to efficiently(joke) criminalize most of our population... nevermind
To quote the late George Carlin: "Mother's milk leads to everything."
Yes, dragnet. The so-called war on drugs will never be won because of the cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy it requires in its adherents. Alcohol IS a drug, but it’s so socially acceptable that the one attempt to prohibit it failed. Imagine if marijuana and hydrocodone pills were as socially acceptable as alchohol? Yet those substances would have fewer bad consequences on the drive home after a party than too many drinks. Pot is the whipping boy, when alcohol abuse is the substance responsible not only for many thousands of highway deaths, but also diseases and family trauma. And no, I’ve never smoked anything or even had a drink. The reason is because I’ve seen the effects of both on others in my family. Choose to believe it or not. It’s true. I used to be on the other side of this argument until someone in my family died as a result of an accident involving alcohol.
This belief is based solely on the fact that hard drug users first used marijuana. But I suspect long before that they used aspirin or children's Tylanol. Maybe Tylanol is a gateway drug? I'm sure most alcoholics first drank beer. Perhaps beer is a gateway drug for alcoholism? Almost all children in the United States ate their first food from a jar...maybe baby food is a gateway to obesity.
The claim of marijuana being a gateway drug is weak and you can drive a mac truck through the argument.
So you want the Gestapo in your home trying to get you for smoking a joint?
Barry O did COKE and Ganga ?? Do we have a double standard now ?
I so agree...it baffles me WHY “conservatives” rally around this absurd War on DRugs. If we are going to have a WOD, lets at least prioritize what we will spend our $ and time on prosecuting.
The argument “well, if there had been no WOD for these last 40 years, THINGS WOULD HAVE BEEN WORSE....We saved millions of lives!” That sounds like the “We SAVED millions of jobs” line the Admin uses.
If the truth be known, there has been no series of real scientific research studies to determine if the WOD has been effective, or which part of it.
And don't forget those jackboot and battering ram manufacturers.
Where exactly did she say she was in favor of pot smoking?
She was talking about limited police resources....
My ex husband is an alcoholic, a very nasty one. Anyway I do recall law enforcement telling me many years ago that all the domestic violence calls they get are from drunks, not pot smokers, to make your point.
Preliminary and ongoing research suggests otherwise. Had a brain scan lately ?"
Maybe, but i see alcoholic cirrhosis every day. I'm not aware that I ever seen any significant medical effects directly attributable to pot.
I am really starting to hate that woman. Reagan would be ashamed of her. Conservatives should not go around advocating the use of DOPE.
She appears to be going after the libertarian vote.
You are right we should ban booze.
It simply cannot be compared to pot on the harmful scale.
What I find troubling, is you can pull right up in your car, and buy killer alcohol on any street corner...But pot is still illegal. Our highways are littered with alcohol containers and blood.
I personally believe it's due to the tax $ issue, and likely the alcohol producers have lobbied hard against legalizing pot.
