The problem, Steve, is that he’s failing to meet even that minimal standard.

Steven Crowder made the point very well on Fox News this morning that the president only seems actively engaged in extra-legal government activities: taking over banks, auto manufacturers, healthcare, etc. and not at all interested in exercising constitutionally mandated powers: protecting the American people by securing the border and assisting (rather than blocking) the various state’s efforts to deal with the Gulf oil spill.....

"Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, a Republican who once denounced Democrats for scheming to "increase dependence on government," now demands that Washington do more for his state. "

This is a "spin" statement...

The way I hear it...Jindal is asking Washington to "get out of the way" with the roadblocks against building the offshore berms to block the oil from coming ashore.

Washington will not cooperate.

I think it's too late now, the oil is already in La.

Jindahl doesn’t want the government to “save us’. He wants them to GET OUT OF THE WAY! “O” is using this as another crisis not to be wasted on the road to total government control of our existence.

Now that I know that uhbama and his horrific black hearted soul-less advisors REFUSED help from the Dutch three days after the oil spill happened (the Dutch have ships designed to gather oil from the seas) Then I learned that not only did this HORRIFIC administration REFUSE the Dutch (with a polite and UTTERLY STUPID mail notice to their embassy in DC) but FIFTEEN OTHER NATIONS OFFERED HELP and were REFUISED!

Can someone PLEASE TELL ME WHY IN THE HELL UHBAMA AND HIS BLACK HEARTED CRONIES REFUSED HELP when we NEEDED IT SO MUCH AS NOTHING WAS BEING DONE THEN?????

Then I read on an article here on FR boards that the F'n UNIONS had a lot to do with this decision to refuse HELP from the Dutch and other nations eager to lend a hand.

THE UNIONS...........the UNIONS?

What in the hell do the UNIONS have to do with CLEANING UP THE OIL MESS and HAVING THE POWER TO STOP THE PRESIDENT AND HIS IDIOTS IN THE WHITE HOUSE FROM ACCEPTING HELP FROM OTHER NATIONS OFFERING IT>>>>WHAT????????

Are we NOW led by UNION THUGS???????????? And meanwhile the creatures and businesses in the gulf region SUFFER because our pitiful cowardly president is making deals with the UNIONS who do not want outside help????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

And our MEDIA will not report these facts to our nation...to all of us?

We have to get rid of this administration YESTERDAY. They are the most corrupt and sick bunch of immature later day hippies EVER!

To quote Bugs Bunny, Chapman is a "Maroon"

It was only a matter of time before the msm started parroting the new line of thinking....We are expecting too much from Zero. He can't "suck it up with a straw"

Absurd to compare gov't intrusion into DAILY lives with depending on the gov't to protect us from CATASTROPHE.

The point he fails to make is that we would just like to see Zero demonstrate the urgency in the gulf shown in his approach to the GM bailout or healthcare takeover.

When his critics accuse Obama of being detached and passionless, they are really faulting him for being calm, rational and realistic.

No, it's because he's a pussy. PERIOD.

The author is clueless!

What state or states have the resources to clean up the entire Gulf Coast & waters extending out hundreds of miles?

This is a national disaster, happening in Federal waters. It is an ecological disaster that makes Love Canal look like a spilled can of gas. Press reports say it is already 8 times bigger than the Exxon Valdez, & the oil is still flowing into the Gulf. The collapse of the tourist & fishing industries along the coast will reverberate throughout the nation, affecting manufacturers, suppliers, truckers, etc.

Beyond that, I am temped to say that the Gulf Disaster will be the final nail in Obama’s political coffin; but I fear we have many more painful nails to bear before he is history. Some may actually be fatal for our nation.

Imagine how different it could have been! Obama could have rushed to the coast, with an army & navy of ships & equipment close behind, declaring it a national crisis and asking for help from anyone willing. Instead of vilifying BP, Obama could have pushed for teamwork between the gov’t & BP, & urged America to help. Instead of shutting down offshore drilling & ending the jobs of thousands, he could have instituted an immediate, thorough inspection & re-certification of every offshore drilling operation, which would reassure EVERYBODY - the drillers, the crews, the markets, & the people. Empty condo rooms could have been filled with cleanup volunteers who get free rooms & a food stipend from the gov’t. This could save many a condo or restaurant, & keep the coastal economy on life support.

Oh my, now even conservatives are picking up the abyssmally stupid liberal idea that if one objects to government doing jobs it has no business doing (firing CEOs, taking over banks, dictating light bulb purchases, etc.) one has no right to expect government to do the jobs it’s supposed to do, like say, fighting fires, building roads and keeping oil slicks out of marshes.

Chapman is apparently the kind of guy who figures that if you won’t let the mayor choose the daily special at your restaurant, you shouldn’t expect the fire department to show up when you have a grease fire in your kitchen. Like I said, abyssmally stupid and completely divorced from conservatism.

Oh, forgot about this: This is part of Romney's ongoing campaign to make sure no one ever again takes him seriously. Obama is not a mayor. He is commander in chief at a time when we are fighting two major wars, confronting a North Korea that recently sunk a South Korean naval vessel, trying to prevent Iran from getting nukes and grappling with an international crisis involving Israel.

And what in the bloody world is he doing about any of those? Respectively, that would be nothing, nothing and slapping a valued ally in the face because they dared allow their soldiers to defend themselves against attack by terrorists who want to take Israel back to Auschwitz.

We all have our off days, but this column is a complete embarassment.

Chapman is being disingenuous, ignoring the fact that a president can be overly active in areas where the government has no legitimate constitutional function while being a slug in areas where he should be doing something.

When a Republican is in office they suddenly understand such distinctions perfectly.
