BP Oil Spill Plan Consults Dead Man (Heckuva Job, Barack!)
NBC 6 ^ | June 10, 2010

Posted on 06/10/2010 3:01:30 PM PDT by Recovering_Democrat

The BP oil spill response is so jacked up, they are seeking the advice of a dead man.

As part of its 2009 disaster response plan, BP lists biologist and former Florida Atlantic University and University of Miami professor Peter Lutz as the expert it would call on to monitor any impact crude oil was having on sea life.

Lutz sounds like a good pick and his expertise would be critical right now if only he hadn't died five years ago. Lutz died of pancreatic cancer at age 65.

Someone tell me...isn't the Department of the Interior charged with making sure these response plans are on the up and up?

And by the way, what about the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, wherein the WHITE HOUSE is ORDERED to stop any oil spill deemed a threat.

Seems to me the blame falls on BP for the spill, and on Hussein for the inability to stop the spread.

Both of 'em are failures.

Hey, Lutz was alive enough to vote for Obama; Lutz and his neighbors put Obama over the top to carry Florida. If he’s alive enough to vote for a socialist, then he’s alive enough to advise the socialist.

On the other hand, the Prof. can still vote in Chicago.

This is a constant problem with disaster recovery plans.

I just went through a DR exercise, and half the people listed in the plan don’t work at my company any more.

That's a problem Barack inherited from the previous administration.

If he's been dead five years, he must have been murdered by someone connected to the Bush administration. /sarc

So the company that wrote the plan full of lies, and blew the well, and can’t stop the gusher - they are not the the ones at fault here?

It’s GOVERNMENT’S fault for not making a corporation stop lying? It’s the Federal government’s fault for taking the assurances of the guys who have the expertise? Should we treat these corporations as guilty until proven innocent by bureaucrats?

I thought that government was supposed to get out of the way of businesses and stop over-regulating them. Government was supposed to let the experts do what they do best - drill and extract oil. The whole ostensible reason that the Dept of the Interior and the MMS were only given thirty days to review each application was because we needed the oil so badly that we couldn’t hold up the permits with regulatory investigation.

The MMS is a textbook example of a “captured agency,” guys whwo ran corporations working in the very agency that is supposed to regulate them. Ken Salzar has been a huge proponent of offshore drilling - he had approved 53 million acres for offshore drilling in his first year alone. That was supposed to be a good thing - more oil drilling! The only problem Conservatives had with him was that the drilling wouldn’t start fast enough.

Yeah, what ABOUT the Oil Pollution Act of 1990. How does the White House stop an oil spill? (This isn’t an oil “spill” exactly, any more than a gash in the neck is a “blood spill.”) Should they commandeer boats and force the owners to perform certain acts? Seize the company? Just what would you do?

They’re all failures. But then, so are we. We have looked the other way for years while this psychopathic corporation killed people because of its slipshod operations. We didn’t care much, because they still brought us that gasoline we love and need and refuse to do without.

Yeah, it IS this government’s fault. They are CHARGED BY FEDERAL LAW to stop the spread of the oil. Period. The text is clear, as it says the President SHALL use all means to stop the threat to the environment.

If you had read my post(s) carefully, you’d see I think BOTH British Petroleum AND Hussein are culpable.

Even now, there is a manufacturer of oil boom, or whatever it is called, in Maine who is sitting on all sorts of stuff...Hussein’s team isn’t answering his offers. Nations all across the globe OFFERED HELP to Hussein, and he accepted the help of TWO.

One of the nations Hussein IS consulting with about the emergency is CUBA. Are you KIDDING ME?

Bush was ripped a new a-hole for not overriding the inept governor of Louisiana—but at least he abided by the law. The Constitution, IIRC, gives the Congress, and by extension the President, authority over the WATERS of our nation.

So, yeah, I *do* blame Hussein and his amateur team for not being CERTAIN that their jurisdiction was sufficiently safe.

This is JUST like a screw up on an airline: the federal government is CHARGED BY LAW to make sure air travel is safe. Of course, individual airlines, if they screw up, are culpable too...but dismissing the feds dropped ball here is not acceptable.
