This is pretty scary stuff. The Federal government is ready to seize control of private company networks in order to "protect" us in the event of a hacker attack.
I said that on 11/4/08, and was poo-pooed here on FR.
TokyObama!
Does the marine radio band require a special license?
Decapitation? You must be MUSLIM!!!!! </sarc>

Things have changed a great deal over the last 30 years. Used to be, a Ham radio license required passing a fairly comprehensive test along with demonstrating the ability to send Morse Code at, I think, 5 words per minute or so.
I do have an FCC license for ZA (General Mobile Radio, GMRS).
Funny! Good old FidoNet.
Heh...I'm having flashbacks to two decades ago....to the unrest in the USSR when they didn't cut the 'net connections at first, and I was helping to translate the information coming out. Wow...it might be radios to replace the 'net next time. And who knows, it might be Americans trying to get word to the outside world.
Oh man... nostalgia... http://www.fidonet.org/
Licensing is not an issue. Equipment is.
Back in the 70s, I had a sailor friend that was part of “Illegal Radio Operators of America”
He was running a 10kw station just under the CB Band.
Yeah, we must be old timers. :-)
10 kw? Wow, talk about an alligator!
I am a Ham... the government suspended all Ham Radio activities during WWII and confiscated equipment. I will put an axe through my property before some Fed gets it... that I promise you.

I think they run some of those monitoring programs. They looked at certain pages on our web site - that’s how I stumbled on them. Looked at their web site, did a search on them, searched with their IP block addresses too and didn’t find anything that made me happy to know who they are.
When the SHTF you won’t need any stinking licenses.
Good idea. You know, there are many, many of these types of small groups already formed as 9/12 groups, who get together on a regular monthly basis. There is even one in my little suburb of Columbus (& Cols has a much larger group). Of those 9/12 attendees, I wonder how many are freepers?
When we were out at sea he’d call home on Navy’s 500 watts and his sister would talk back on his 10kw rig.
His car a had 2kw rig with a Dual alternator and battery setup so the car wouldn’t die when he keyed.
Needless to say, he had his equipment seized several times.
“10 kw? Wow, talk about an alligator!”
Funny you put it that way. He was from south Florida.
See my post 97 and the post I was replying to. I haven’t been participating in my local group yet, but it may be the place to start since they are already organized. I know that many folks dislike Glenn, but the way the groups are set up, they have nothing to do with him...they are all about us.
