The first new razor from Procter & Gamble’s Gillette division in four years - the Fusion ProGlide - hits U.S. store shelves today.
For two months, the company has been teasing the release with a TV ad campaign that shows the evolution of its razors and today’s date and said, “See what’s next.”
The Fusion ProGlide will be Gillette’s top-of-the-line razor for men with the battery-operated power model retailing for $12.99 and replacement blades going for a 15 percent premium over the current cost for Fusion blades.

In the late 90’s, I switched to a straight razor. It’s one of the smartest things I have ever done. I figured if it was good enough for my old man, it should be good enough for me. I only use a modern razor when I travel, and I’m convinced the shave isn’t as close. I bet I have saved close to $400, or more on replacement blades.
Not building better products, building better consumers.
What about bandaids? How long did it take to learn?
The Schick Quatro disposables are a good product and have a surprisingly long life-span. They come in a package of three and are occasionally on sale at the usual places.
Good question. I learned on a straight razor close to 40 years ago, but switched when I went to college. It just wasn't practical in the dorm. So, I kind of knew what I was doing when I switched back, but it still took about a couple months (maybe less) to get to the point where I wasn't cutting my face once a week.
As long as your blade is very sharp, you get to the point where you virtually never cut your face.

When I was still in uniform, I had to shave twice a day with those multi-blade razors. They only lasted a couple days.

+1. and generic shaving cream. I spend less than twenty bucks a year on shaving supplies.
Used a Spanish made straight razor for many years. I can shave in the dark but I never got good at getting a truly sharp razor. Any suggestions?

I also have a couple of vintage razors that I like to hold, but they don't hold the edge as long as some of these newer ones. I think the steel technology is just better today. They're not cheap. A good one is going to run you at least $180(ish).
I also went back, but not quite that far, to a stainless "safety razor", the type that takes the double edged blades. The blades are still available, very cheap, and give a far superior shave to the current kind.

As I mentioned, the quality of the blade is really important. The cheap blades just don't hold the edge. I strop before every shave, I and sharpen a couple times a month with two really quality stones. I don't even use the other side of the stop, although I know the professionals say that you should. It still works.
So that’s why Tiger Woods was replaced by “real guys.”
I got away from the shaving cream also. Went to a dollar store hand/body cocoa butter lotion. 24 oz. jug for about $2., and it's gonna last at least a year.
