Fox Commentator: Family of Girl Berated by Bus Driver Should be Sued for Instilling Pro-Family Views

By Kathleen Gilbert

June 3, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - An attorney commentating for the Fox News show "Kelly's Court" not only dismissed as irrelevant a lawsuit against an Indiana bus driver caught berating a middle-school girl for her pro-family views, but said that the girl's family should instead be sued for instilling belief in traditional marriage.

A family is suing Carmel Clay Schools for emotional damages after bus driver Betty Campbell, angered by their daughter's belief in traditional marriage, summoned her onto an empty school bus to lecture her on why she should support homosexual "marriage." The girl can be seen crying in the bus camera footage, which also captured Campbell calling the girl a "stupid little bigot" and declaring that children professing Christian beliefs "belong in a parochial church school."

Campbell's harassment was reportedly sparked by the girl stating she would not have voted for Barack Obama because of his pro-abortion and pro-same-sex "marriage" agenda. The school has reportedly refused to discipline Campbell.

In other camera footage, Campbell can be heard saying that "I don't want to hear one more word about anyone going to hell if they are gay or if they're Buddhist or whatever, 'cause it's none of your damn business." The girl's father, however, said that Campbell later admitted while under oath that she had never heard the girl say those words.

But criminal defense attorney Joey Jackson vehemently denied that Campbell's tirade, and the stress she caused the student, deserved a legal battle.

"Buy this girl a bowl of ice cream and call it a day," said Jackson. "I am so surprised that this lawsuit has not been dismissed yet on frivolous and pointless grounds."

"The fact of the matter is that maybe this school bus driver used poor judgment a poor choice of words," he continued, "but to sue on the basis of this - if anybody should be sued, it should be, A, the father for filing the lawsuit, and B, the family for instilling these views in the child."

In August 2009 the girl's parents sued the school district seeking payment of damages and court costs. The trial is scheduled to begin in December.

Defense attorney David Wohl, on the other hand, called Campbell's conduct "absolutely" actionable. "If the child had expressed an opinion that favored same-sex 'marriage,' and that bus driver had gone after her, then do you think that bus driver would still have a job? I don't think so," said Wohl on the same program.

“Kelly’s Court” Host Megyn Kelly concluded that "the parents here probably don't have a viable lawsuit, but they do have a heck of a right to be angry."

Oh, please.

The guest commentators are selected for offering different points of view. IMO, the more preposterous the opinion, the more instructive the moral point of view becomes.

"The more people find out that you think it should be illegal to hold or express views other than yours, the more you’ll get what’s coming to you."

What does this thread have to do with freedom of speech, views or opinions?

This is about scaring the hell out of little kids by an adult, and seeing that they are kids, FORCING ones views upon them through intimidation, I.E. COWARDICE.

"...and declaring that children professing Christian beliefs "belong in a parochial church school."

Well say what you will but at least the Bus Driver got one part right! Because it is apparent that most public schools are hostile to Christians!

(On a related note I attended my daughters year-end High School Awards banquet and was shocked when an Opening prayer was offered right in the High School Auditorium. After the prayer I remarked loudly that I was proud to be among so many lawbreakers and was given the thumbs up and many hoots and hurrays from the folks within earshot of my comments!)

I think that is called KIDNAPPING. But, maybe I’m wrong, as nothing is as it should be anymore.

What does this thread have to do with freedom of speech, views or opinions?

The speaker on the news program said that the parents of the child in the case should be sued for inculcating "incorrect" opinions. That was the same perspective expressed by the bus driver - that it is wrong to hold or express views contrary to the promotion of homosexuality.

I think it is useful for such people to be provided a public forum - such as the Fox News program - so that the viewers can see what "tolerance" really means in action: it means abusing those who disapprove of homosexuality.

In other words, it appears you rather misunderstood my post.

I’ve said for 10 years -

to defeat the left, we must EXPOSE the left.

They NEVER are upfront about their goals or true agenda,
they always cloak it in some feel-good terms to get their
sheep to go along with it.

Get them to expose themselves and they lose a quarter of their base.

I did?

Well, I hope my reply made some sense anyway. ;0)

exactly

we are on a conservative site which the founder JR as said he does not want any of the pro homosexual agenda to be said on ere and we still have some who defend these homosexuals and their agenda.
Conservatives stand for normal families and marriage end of.

It seems in obama world what is right is wrong and wrong is right, sickening.

Good for the family to stand up and this woman should be charged with kidnapping, etc.
That woman after then drove her bus to the house, and got the girl from her house to the bus and kept her there.

More and more intolerance from the left and it needs to stop.

agree but exposing the homosexual community is up to us as fox and other outlets will not show ow they really are, the assaults they do or ow they attack people who stand in their way.

Kelly is very pro homosexual as it most of the fox people.
Its the usual crap of well I know one and they’re nice.
Maybe those folks should take a sec and think what these so called nice people do to each other and ow they act at bathrooms

Sounds like a criminal offense to me-- There's a term for illegally detaining someone. This a-hole driver had no authority to do this.

I agree. And this is one of those times I wish there was an active group of conservatives who could fight as mean and ugly as the moonbats. If this particular shoe was on the other foot, by now every possible bit of dirt in this bus driver's life, past and present, would be public knowledge. We'd know if she ever left any local, state or federal tax unpaid, if she'd ever worked a trades job without a valid license, if she had unpaid parking tickets, and a second cousin by marriage who had once been accused of child endangerment. This woman would find the media setting up broadcast satellites and a tent city in her front yard, where they'd accost her every time she so much as peeked out her kitchen curtains.

Instead, the only reason a lot of us are even hearing about this story is because a liberal attorney said something insane about it while on the Fox News channel. It sucks.

What a Fascist. Amazing to think a lawyer can have so little understanding of freedom and our Constitutional, civil and human rights.

This is why the government has no business funding schools at all of any kind. They should ALL be private!
