Rabbis: Flotilla Clash Heralds Gog and Magog Prophecy
Arutz Sheva ^ | 6-3-10 | Gil Ronen

Thursday in which it said that the results of the incident in which Israel intercepted a flotilla trying to break the naval blockade of Gaza "place us at the beginning of the Gog and Magog process where the world is against us, but which ends with the third and final redemption."

The statement explained that while secular Zionism always wants Israel to be beloved by other nations, “the legitimacy of our people is not derived from the nations of the world and their poisonous traditions, rather from the Torah of Israel which teaches us that [Israel] 'is a people that shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations'" (Numbers 23:9).

The council blessed the soldiers of the IDF and called for the formation of an emergency unity government that will bring about the salvation promised by G-d.

>>And even here, on FR, I get attacked for it.<<

You do?!?
I thought that the Bible told us to pray for Israel.
I would if I was told or not but why would anyone attack you here?

I’m just curious why you think this should be relegated to the closet down the hall?

Because it's the latest in a long, long line of "the end is near" predictions. All such predictions have been wrong in the last 1,900-plus years; I see no reason to think this one is any different. All of the date-setters and sign-seers had their reasons, and all of them thought, "this time is different." Well, this time isn't different.

Okay, that's a logical response.  I'll respond.  You are right that many have made similar claims throughout history.  Are you aware that many of those claims took place when there wasn't even a nation called Israel on the planet?  The fact that Israel even exists is in fact a part of the end day prophesies fulfillment.  I can't predict when the end will come, but I can point to the fact that certain conditions need to align according to prophecy.  Those things are aligning.  Does this mean that 'for certain' end times are here, Jesus is going to return in the clouds of glory in the next few years and the promise of Salvation through Faith will be fulfilled?  No, of course not.  However..., it is entirely possible.  "Every eye shall seem him come in the clouds of Glory."  Paraphrased.  Was this possible even twenty years ago, even ten?

In Jesus day people were looking forward to the fulfillment of prophecy too.  John the Baptist preached in the wilderness, with public officials angry that he was "blaspheming".  People had predicted since man sinned in Eden, that God would redeem man.  And every prediction that Jesus would soon walk the earth, was met with ridicule.  And yet, there came a time when one man in the wilderness cleared the way for the Son of God.  And He did walk among us. And Christians believe he did redeem us.

And yet, a people who should have been ready, denied him.  Are you so sure you aren't doing the same thing right now?  I'm not saying this to condemn you or infer you are condemned for your actions here.  I am just saying that we shouldn't put ourselves in the postion of denying the possibility of redemption realized.

You can’t grasp the significance of it, or it angers you to be confronted with something that makes you uncomfortable and may be very important?

Nothing like being psychoanalyzed because you disagree.

Okay, I think that's a reasonable reaction.  I will admit that I think my ponderings were reasoned too, but I don't see your response to be unreasoned.

It's not that I can't grasp the "significance" - it's that I think it's total bunk.

Because the prophecies addressing Gog and Megog are total hogwash?  Look, even you must admit that the nations of the earth are more or less coming out against Israel.  Any person who doesn't believe in the Gog and Megog prophecies (for lack of a better title), should be scratching their head right about now.  The uncanny resemplence of those prophecies should cause any thinking person to wonder how they could be that accurate if they weren't true?  Total bunk?  How are you any more sure of that verdict, than you are that it isn't total bunk?

As for it making me "uncomfortable"? Hardly - though I think my dissenting opinion may make a few others on this board uncomfortable. Oh well - like I told another poster, if you don't want dissent and ridicule, post it in the religion forum.

I don't so much want dissent to disappear, as I would like open minds to appear.

I would be the last one to ask you to take what I say as the Gospel, but I do think you need to ask yourself what the Gospel is, and consider these matters for yourself.  And what does it harm folks, to discuss these matters at times like this?  Is our salvation and what we believe something we shouldn't discuss on this forum in time of global upheavel?

I say this as a person who finds the prayer threads here almost intollerable, as I find prayer to be an individual or physically present group participation endeavor.  So I'm not exactly the run out and go rah rah rah, ree ree ree, every time folks turn to God on this forum.  I still believe in Him, the God of Abraham.  I try to listen when things pertaining to Him come up.

Well I did defend your initial post but I have to admit that you sound like an intolerant leftist here. You didn’t find it “very hard not to respond”. As one poster pointed out, the title makes it obvious what this subject is about. You’re looking to pick a fight.

I agree with you that it shouldn’t be in Breaking News by any stretch of the imagination but it does merit “news” not simply “religion” as it is a story being covered by the media not simply a religious article. And even beyond that, who decides who the media is? Are you saying Christians and Jews are not able to comment on the events of the day and have to compartmentalize their faith so as not to offend the poor non-religious person who might be exposed to a Bible verse or the word “God”?

2 Peter 3:3-4

“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

“And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”

(sigh)

While I can’t and won’t say for sure that current events are or are not “signs of the apocalypse” ... And knowing that many have spoken falsely before, to gain fame, or money ...

This doesn’t look good.

Do we know the day or the hour? No. But ... it sure looks as though the leaves are turning, and the season approaches.

The Bible commands us to be prepared, in anticipation of the bridegroom, not to bury our heads in the sand and say, “Nonono, it didn’t happen yesterday, it won’t happen today and certainly not tomorrow”, as mentioned by Peter.

Should we all go off and be shouting “Onoz!” at the top of our lungs? Probably not ... but we should be prayerfully alert and aware. And ... “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem”.

(Psalm 122, by the way.)

The point is not that we should ignore the day or the hour because we cannot know them, but rather that we should live every day as though that day or hour might be today ... or this hour.

Regards,

Joel Rosenberg’s take on this: (From my e-mail)

“’Gog and Magog’ is a reference is to chapters 38 and 39 in the book of Ezekiel, a part of which is read on the intermediate Sabbath of Sukkot (Tabernacles).... These chapters describe a vision of a war where the world is united against Israel that will precede the final redemption of Israel and the world.

The prophecy’s symbolism involves a prince called Gog of Magog, leader of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal, who leads a coalition that includes Persia (Iran), Cush, Phut, Gomer, and Beit Togarmah against Israel. There are various opinions regarding the modern identity of these nations.”

There is growing interest in the Ezekiel prophecies and whether they could play out in our lifetime. I believe it is still too early to say anything definitively. But I agree that current events are strikingly consistent with the prophecies and I believe it is possible that we could see these events unfold soon.

The mention of “Gomer” in Ezekiel, for example, refers to the modern-day State of Turkey which will be an enemy of Israel and part of a Russian-Iranian alliance against the Jewish state. I’m not saying the prophecy will necessarily come to pass soon, but I can’t rule out that possibility. We’ve never seen a convergence of geopolitical and spiritual events so consistent with Ezekiel 38-39 in history like we are seeing today.

We need to be prayerful, sober, alert and prepared. At the conference on June 25-26 in Philly, I will address the latest developments. But I knew you’d want to see this article.

It’s posted on my weblog — http://flashtrafficblog.wordpress.com/.

No one will know.

Not true. Per 1 Thess 5:2-6 — especially v.4 — believers will not be caught unaware.

2 For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.

3 While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.

4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief;

5 for you are all sons of light and sons of day We are not of night nor of darkness;

6 so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober.

Don't feel bad about it, though, I grew up in church and I wish I had a dollar for every time someone repeated that line about not being able to know. I don't know who started it, but the Bible doesn't support it.

Jesus himself flat out commanded "keep watch, and pray." What sort of fools errand would he be sending us on if we weren't going to have any way to know?? And what of the parable of the fig tree in Matthew 24? What sense would it make for Jesus to tell a parable about how to tell the time of the end if there'll be no way to tell the time of the end?

Nah, if you are counted among the "brethren" you'll know when to look up.

O, pish-posh. We'll all be here for a long time coming.

And so will Israel because regardless of Obama's islamic intentions, this country will not permit the loss of its only democratic ally in the mideast.

And don't discount the possibility of a radical discontinuity by God.

Having lived through earthquakes and various catastrophes, its clear He retains that option.

Where are “Peace Now!” Brigade? They have been quiet lately. I hope they stop meddling in Israeli politics. However, I suspect they still do under the surface.

Actually, the writings are between 5,000 and 3,200

Actually the writings, depending on whether you mean Ezekiel or Revalations, are abut 2000 to 2500 years old.

My problem isn't with prophesy, but that had you been paying attention, it has been cited for proof of end-of-days ALL OF MY LIFE. It hasn't been true in the past. Of course, sooner or later it will be. But every generation discovers it and goes goofy without reference to times past when the signs were even greater.

Prepare every day. Don't try to time the market. And DON'T post it as news.

In my first post, I mentioned Sammy Tippit http://www.sammytippit.org/. I went on a Baptist outing to see him speak on Gog aand Magog in 1968-70. He said the same thing as this article. My point isn’t that it won’t be true someday, just that it isn’t breaking news. Religion should be posted under religion.

Then I apologize if I misunderstood a post of yours. I agree about the Breaking News but if the MSM or other media is picking up on this story, then it’s still news, religious or not.

Just like Ted Haggard’s opening up a church in Colorado is news not merely “religion”.

Regarding your username, tough job I’m sure.
