I find that when someone tries to make another person feel small, they have issues with themself. I will devote some time to you in my prayers this evening. Really. God bless you.
Yes.
I kinda want to remember him from those days, the “Different Strokes” days.
You know, none of the 3 kids from Different Strokes had a very good life after the series ended.
The girl, Dana Plato, was involved in drugs and even prostitution and died very early, and the other chap, Todd Bridges has been screwed up (drugs, arrests etc) ever since.
I think part of it is that we hear about the cases where the parent is a thief or other type of exploiter, but we don’t hear about cases where the parent acts responsibly. The old “no news stories about buildings that didn’t burn down” aspect of media.
I suspect that’s right. And of course, money is very seductive. I bet lots of kids get into the business when they are young and cute, do a few years, get less cute and then go on to live normal lives. I’ve had a few I’ve tried to look up who simply disappeared and that’s probably what happened. Good on them and their folks.
Dana Plato’s son.
RIP.
His show was one of my favorite to watch when I was a small child.
RIP...
So after being on FR for 12 years, you think there’s a shortage of concern here for the welfare of American troops? That’s like thinking there’s a shortage of drug users at DU.
So, get a grip, please.
One also wonders if you really think, as you seem to, that emotional states like respect, bereavement and compassion are part of a zero sum game. Do you really believe that if someone figures the death of a household name is news that somehow means that the war is not news? If someone is saddened that a guy who had a hard life has died far too young that means there is less sadness available for them to feel about another young man giving his life for his country? Compassion is a finite pool that must be divided?
He had a difficult life. May God bless him with a joyful eternity.
He actually almost made sense - had kind of a weird populist/libertarian blend going on (yes they’re somewhat opposite views).
FWIW he always seemed like a basically good guy with lots of internal struggles.
True that he had some bad road, but Bridges has been clean for years and his last legal trouble was 17 years ago.
Good!
Didn’t realize all those folks had passed. I knew about some, but not all.
Just saw Airplane 3 with Peter Graves. Funny scene where he is trying to disconnect a computer (spoof of 2001’s Hal) and it gives off this overpowering smoke...to the tune of the theme from Mission Impossible. Describing it in print doesn’t do it justice — you had to see it.
Rest in peace to all, including Mr. Coleman.
If memory serves me right, I believe this resulted in laws and policies being enacted to protect child stars from having their fortunes squandered away by their parents."
You're thinking of Jackie Coogan.
How tragic,, sad just sad I remember Dana did an interview I think the day or two before she died. Stern I think.
Sorry to hear of the brush. You take care of yourself now... ;-)
One of the reasons I love FR is that people have hearts big enough to care about more than one thing at a time. For many of us a part of our youth died today and that always feels a little bit tragic. Either way, a man we are familiar with is gone and we have come here to pay our respects to him and those that loved him.
Your anger on this issue is confusing.
RIP Gary Coleman. Hope you find your peace.
Dana Plato’s son on May 13. I also missed the report.
