Good news: Top Democrats wearing bracelets protesting Arizona law now

Someone on Twitter told me you can see Pelosi wearing one here. Problem one: There’s not nearly enough detail to tell for sure. Problem two: Er, since when do Arizona protest bracelets exist? I hadn’t heard a word about them, and surely top Democrats wouldn’t be so stupid as to adorn themselves with actual badges of how out of touch they are with popular opinion about immigration.

But guess what.

As part of his general boycott of Arizona — which includes his refusal to fly through Phoenix on his weekly trips to and from Washington — Baca, D-Rialto, is distributing wristbands inspired by the Lance Armstrong LiveSTRONG craze.

Baca put in an order for 2,500 of his version, which will be red, yellow and blue — the colors of Arizona’s flag — to be worn as a show of solidarity against the controversial law…

In Washington, Baca has gotten House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and most members of the Democratic leadership to wear them, as they did — along with golfing legend Chi Chi Rodriguez — at a recent fundraiser for Baca. Baca said his office is fielding calls from people inquiring how they can get one of the wristbands.

“Everyone wants them,” Baca said. “They’re going like hot potatoes.”

I am sick and tired of people, on BOTH sides of this debate, using the time honored terms of "immigration" and "immigrants" as synomyms for "ILLEGAL aliens".

I am an immigrant and so are many or most of the ancestors of most of the members of Free Republic.

This is NOT an issue about "immigration". This is an issue about THE RULE OF LAW. (The Rule of Law: The core value that supposedly differentiates America from a Banana Republic)

"Immigrants" and "immigration" are not the issue. The issue is ILLEGAL ( whatever you want to call crossing the border).

Do NOT help the Left by using the terms "immigrant" or "immigration" when you mean ILLEGAL alien. If you do, most Americans will say, "Hey, wait a minute. Great-grandpa landed at Ellis Island. That guy is against my own family!"

This issue is not about "immigration". America is a land of immigrants ..... LEGAL immigrants.

Tactically, this is EXCELLENT for 2010!

Immigration is one big pile of dog crap that the Democrats foolishly and unecessarily can and will step into in November 2010. It could well be THE TIPPING POINT ISSUE by which they could lose the House and perhaps even the Senate.

Rahm Emmanuel is smart enough to avoid this like the plague; I respect his political tactics and vision in this sense--he is very wise to stay the hell away from it. But his voice is in the minority.

But the Democratic mainstream is going to go full bore Amnesty, wearing bracelets, standing up in applause against American sovereignty by a sovereign state, etc. and further lose votes, particularly mainstream and Independents, by the absolute millions. This will also prove a potent fundraiser for our side for local candidates in mailers and TV and internet.

Bring it on! I hope they continue to do this. It is GREAT for our side.

WE MUST CALL AND WRITE Democrat Congressmen and pose as open borders liberals and demand! that the Democratic Party bring Amnesty and "The Rights of the Undocumented" to the immediate forefront and also for them to reign in that evil, unfair Rahm Emmanuel in the White House and go full bore, hard core, Congressional Hispanic Caucus on us and the nation.

It will create a radical, counter backlash from the grassroots up, it will give even MORE LIFE to the TEA PARTIES, and will be an absolute electoral GOD SEND FOR US COME NOVEMBER. It will turn out our side in droves, and in anger.
