(CNN) -- Fresh on the heels of a new immigration law that has led to calls to boycott her state, Arizona's governor has signed a bill banning ethnic studies classes that "promote resentment" of other racial groups.
Gov. Jan Brewer approved the measure without public statement Tuesday, according to state legislative records. The new law forbids elementary or secondary schools to teach classes that are "designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group" and advocate "the overthrow of the United States government" or "resentment toward a race or class of people."
The bill was pushed by state school Superintendent Tom Horne, who has spent two years trying to get Tucson schools to drop a Mexican-American studies program he said teaches Latino students they are an oppressed minority. There was no immediate response from the Tucson Unified School District, the law's main target.

Texas has been flooded with Yankees for years, I hardly recognize the state from when I was a kid.
I want to move to Arizona in a couple of years (from Syracuse, NY) but I’ve heard that the situation with the illegals is out-of-control. I read stories like the one about the rancher getting shot by the illegal aliens and it worries me.
Arizona has done a lot of real good things recently, and Jan Brewer is certainly getting a lot of (undeserved) credit.
Jan had to sign these bills or kiss her chance of another term goodbye. We finally have some legislators who are doing some real good work. They are the ones who deserve the credit.
Jan Brewer is a RINO who is holding the state hostage financially because she’s demanding an 18% increase in our state sales tax (”only a ‘temporary’ one cent increase”), rather than make any real cuts in spending.
State Treasurer Dean Martin foresaw exactly what’s happening to our finances and warned her about it. He was called “a chicken little” by Jan for his (correct) warning. Dean Martin is now running against Jan (and would be a great true Conservative gov), but even with the recent bump in the polls for Brewer, Buz Mills may actually be our next gov as he comes across as the most charismatic candidate.
Do you know much about Buzz Mills?
Oeewwh boy.
BREWER FOR PRESIDENT
Sad, just truly sad. When I went to school (segregated until 6th grade), we were taught to be proud of who we were by our BLACK teachers. We were taught that we were never victims no matter what bigotry was thrown at us. Who's teaching this crap now? I'll answer, white liberals, who have internalized their bigotry into a meme that black children can never rise above their "station" in life. Ever. They want to pity them and coddle them, but never educate them.
Yup this is major. I’m glad Brewer signed it.

OK. I can see the white liberals part in it.
What I was thinking more of was Sharpton and Jackson.
Small mind, small pop.
I heard Buz Mills speak at a debate with the former State Treasurer (he had to resign to run) Dean Martin, John Munger - the former Arizona Republican Party Chairman (who has some serious corruption issues being investigated due to his mis-management of the State GOP and some ‘mis-spent’ party money, and some just wacky, unrealistic early campaign ‘promises’ - which he has since toned down), and some hilarious Democrat who tried to convince us he was a Republican and practically got heckled off the stage. (I don’t remember his name.)
Buz stole several of Dean’s talking points/one-liners/jokes (and was called on it by Dean at one point when Dean corrected one of them — seeing that was worth the effort to attend). I know this to be true because I had heard Dean Martin previously use these same talking points before Buz started using them.
Buz was late to enter the race and then launched his campaign with nearly $2.1 million of his own contributions.
Some of Buz’s detractors say he defrauded his former business partner. I have no info on that and have not seen any response to it by Buz, but I’m sure the Dems will use it against him if he wins the primary - true or not.
Buz is pro-gun and active with the NRA. He is running on a platform of lower taxes and less government spending, but has no concrete details on how to actually do that. He claims to be pro-life, as do the other Republican candidates.
At this debate Dean Martin clearly won. Dean is obviously very intelligent, with a great record when he was a state Senator, and has a realistic plan to rescue Arizona form the situation we are in, including how to buy back our state capitol - http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/05/realestate/commercial/05states.html
Dean has been slow to recover from the loss of his wife and son during childbirth - http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2009/05/27/20090527martin0527.html - but he now has some excellent people on his campaign staff and now appears to be winning over many skeptics as he meets with them around the state, such as the Arizona Cattle Growers Association when he embraced their Restore Our Border Plan - http://azcattlemensassoc.org/documentz/2010-april/2010ACGABorderSecurityPlan%282%29.pdf

Thank you for the info.
When I first saw the ad for Buzz Mills (I call him Buzz Saw Mills), I thought, who the heck is this guy and where did he come from?
I don’t trust ANYONE by their word alone, so it’s good to know which candidates actually have background and experience to back up what they say (i.e. Dean Martin).
Here’s some local info on TUSD, La Raza and why this bill is so neccessary:

Did I mention I was a native? One of the first times I have been proud of my State. Nah just kidding, always proud of my State.
These lefties are such HATERS. I think they are projecting their extremely low feelings of self-worth onto others. They hate them selves for being losers. America reminds them that they and their cultures are LOSERS. Hahahahahaha. Go back to your crummy rat-infested hell-hole countries, you degenerates. “La Raza” loosley translated is “Loser”.
Actually I think Don Horne had a huge part in the bill. Mr. Horne is our Educ Secty and running for St Atty Gen. He also was a former Democrat before changing parties to Republican before winning the Educ Secty seat. He is also an attorney.
“Jan Brewer is a RINO who is holding the state hostage financially because shes demanding an 18% increase in our state sales tax...”
Our Republican led legislature passed a bill so a one cent (not 18 percent) increase to the state tax which is now at 5.6 percent to 5.7 for three years to fund education, public safety and social programs which have taken huge hits. We have taken in 3 bil less in revenue then spending in the last two fiscal years and unlike CA we balance our budget.
“State Treasurer Dean Martin foresaw exactly whats happening to our finances and warned her about it.”
Treas Martin wasn’t that concerned about it considering he voted in favor of three out of four budgets that Gov Napolitano was able to pass with mostly democratic votes along with moderate republicans like Mr. Martin.
Who is Buz Mills?
