Laura Bush Supports Gay Marriage, Abortion

Former first lady Laura Bush has broken with her husband on the premier social issues of his administration and said she backs gay marriage and abortion.

After more than eight years of silence on the controversial issues, Mrs. Bush said in an interview with CNN's Larry KingTuesday, that gay marriage and abortion were points of contention with her husband, former President George W. Bush.

Mrs. Bush in recent weeks has been promoting her memoir "Spoken from the Heart," in which she writes about her life both before and after becoming first lady.

In response to a question about gay marriage, she said, "There are a lot of people who have trouble coming to terms with that because they see marriage as traditionally between a man and a woman. But I also know that, you know, when couples are committed to each other and love each other, that they ought to have, I think, the same sort of rights that everyone has."

Mrs. Bush said she and the ex-president "disagree" on legalizing same-sex marriage.

Heheh - just sneaking in before taking cats for a walk - just seeing if Katla blew up or WW 3 started.

I got 5 bags of clothes together for a church clothes giveaway, organized most of the beads, talked to a friend in Brazil, now out the door! Read scripture related book last night - feel so much better.

to some that is indifference, in other words people don’t give a damn. Or shall we say lukewarm and we all know what Jesus said about that.

I only 'dismiss' them because they aren't valid, IMO. If you can find a single person who joined the Republican party because of Laura Bush, I will stand corrected.

Wow, are you rude. I was just offering up the possibility, not stating as fact, that some young people may be influenced by her and her daughters' position on abortion & gay marriage. Please don't post back to me.

In a marvelous, insightful, 432 page book, Laura devotes exactly ONE LINE to her belief that "no one can walk in anyone else's shoes." She devotes page after page on their struggle to have children and her firm belief that no matter what was wrong with her babies, she would give birth to them and love them.  As a matter of fact, the only comment on abortion came as a critique of Katie Couric and the media trap. Larry King pressed her on the issue in his interview, and she didn't lie.  It's not as if, as some are implying, or stating outright, she deceitfully waited until her husband was out of office to preach pro-abortion views.

(Some of the comments on this thread are ludicrous).

I haven't read the book.  I haven't seen the interviews.  If she said she thinks this is a matter of choice for individual women, the comments are less ludicrous than you think.

There is one point I need to clarify here.  I earlier said that I wouldn't buy the book because of one comment, and that wasn't entirely true.

When the name George W, and Laura Bush are mentioned, I am caused to contemplate what might have been, Republicans in control of Congress and the White House.  I am not compelled to read ghost written books that explain what went on behind the scenes as JW pushed 'no child left behind', more than doubled the budget of the Department that focuses on brain-washing our children, swore that we had nothign to fear from Islam as it took on facets of Christianity in the public arena in a methodical step by step process, pushed through the Part D addition to Medicare, demagogued the plight of illegal immigrants and supported making them citizens, allowed NASA to flail so disgustingly that we now have no way to put humans in space...

In truth, this tome doesn't appeal to me on any level whatsoever.

I'm sorry that anyone would decide not to buy this wonderful book because of this. I think it's a mistake, because it is loaded with so much information and detail about what went on for 8 years in the protection of this great nation. It gives detail about the greatness of the American people. It gives insight into the character of those who led us for eight years.

Oui vey...

It is a GOOD read, and well worth it for anyone. I hope it remains on the best seller lists for a long time, and that those who don't want to buy it, borrow it.

Yes, let's do our best to portray George and Laura Bush as the perfect models of what we want in reasoned leadership.  And while we're at it, to hell with Conservatism.  /s

In the mean time, let's pray for Laura.........and thanks for the free advice. ;)

I have no problem with praying for Laura, but it baffles me why you think you need to.  Didn't you state she hadn't been wrong on abortion?

You’re a liar. Laura Bush is neither “pro-abortion” or “pro gay marriage”. And you’re the “rude” and let me add, dishonest one.

Chase Home Finance,Prudential Financial,Hotels.com,American Airlines,Showtime,Nike,Shell Oil,Kodak,Subaru,Saab,Ford Motor Company,General Motors,Starbucks,Avis,Ben & Jerry's
Walt Disney,Paramount,Toyota,AT&T,sears,Target,Procter & Gamble,Revlon,Unilever,Verizon,Walgreens

Those that support abortion:TGIF

I could never date or marry anyone who supported abortion. And the whole gay marriage agenda is a direct attack on matters of faith, they want to force the churches to marry them.

LOL! Cool it with the "soap opera" stuff, stephen.

You demanded that I not post (because you were so offended that I called your post "hyperbole" IIRC :), and I reluctantly agreed. Shortly thereafter, I said publicaly just what I said here, that I would post to you as I wished, and that you and I mostly agreed.

I have been completely honest, and you know it.

But let's not quibble. You don't have the right to demand that I not post to you. We both know that, so just ignore me in the future, if you have no response to my comments.

You are an apple, arguing with oranges. If you are a Christian or of another faith which does not support abortion, you have come to that understanding and have formed a philosophy for YOUR life. If you can bring others to that understanding that's rich. These oranges dont speak your language as you do not theirs. Until there is an epiphany or metamorphosis of the mind(Godly intervention, wisdom)they will always be an orange. As we all were before we came to realization.
