My guess is that we had an island capsize because of too many people and that is what they are seeing.

The Greifswald group hypothesises that they were part of a reef that grew on a basalt platform and sank during a seismic event in the ocean’s crust.

Or maybe the fountains of the deep overwhelmed the reef. But I guess considering some sort of giant flood is ridiculous.

Global warming, rising seas, melting icecaps, warming seas, global climate change, melting ice in my night cap, feelings ,nothing more than feelings,.....

Where was I? Oh yeah, If it’s sunken it’s not an island but a sea mount.

I did some googling on the Beata Ridge, which appears to be the beginning of a plateau extending east. I'm not a geologist and I finally gave up trying to understand Caribbean geology, which to say the least is complicated.

Thanks Red Badger.
As a result of their findings, the scientists believe that the submarine mountains, whose summits now top out at between 800 and 1,000 metres below the surface, were volcanic islands in the Caribbean Sea some 40 to 50 million years ago.
