U.S. Marines boot recruits with Confederate tattoos
WND ^ | May 04, 2010 | Chelsea Schilling

A widely regarded Southern symbol of pride and states' rights is standing in the way of would-be Marines in their quest to serve their country – a Confederate battle flag. Straight out of high school, one 18-year-old Tennessee man was determined to serve his country as a Marine. His friend said he passed the pre-enlistment tests and physical exams and looked forward with excitement to the day he would ship out to boot camp. But there would be no shouting drill instructors, no rigorous physical training and no action-packed stories for the aspiring Marine to share with his family. Shortly before he was scheduled to leave Nashville for boot camp, the Marine Corps rejected him. Now, the young man, who wishes to remain unnamed and declined to be interviewed, has chosen to return to school and is no longer an aspiring Marine. "I think he just wants to let it go," said former Marine 1st Lt. Gene Andrews, a friend of the man and patriotic Southerner who served in Vietnam from 1968 through 1971. Andrews is a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a group of male descendents of Confederate soldiers. He counseled the young man when he decided to become a Marine.

Thank you for the "rules". They sound very straightforward and understandable.

ANYTHING that would fail to support good order is prohibited.

Remember that most of the 3 and 4 star POS Generals and Admirals that infest our Military are Clintoon appointees. Bush did NOTHING to run these political hacks out of my military.

Does the military have a list of disqualifying tattoos such as gang related tattoos?

Good point. Take a look at most Marine enlistees from LA. They all sport tats with gang related meaning. My Marine Corps is being pansified.

PC has been killing this nation for a long, long time. I’m surprised they haven’t done away with re-runs/re-makes of the Dukes of Hazzard. Oh wait, that would be the Hollywood crowd so I guess that’s allowed?

I am actually decent from Southern royalty.

My uncle is king of the rednecks.

He was also one hell of a mean marine. I think the marines are going to miss out of many a fine candidates with idiot policies like this.

I felt that I needed to do some digging on this. I LOVE our military, and could not believe that the Marines (or any Armed Service) would go PC. Too many darn good men and women in there to allow that to happen.

So, in my digging, I found that there were rules in force; and was not entirely surprised that WND failed to investigate this. This is why I consider any news from WND suspect - they sensationalize by ommission of facts; just like the Libtards sensationalize my suppression of facts.

See post #7. Hate to throw the regulations at you; but you should know what the facts are.

I’ve seen a lot of tattoos of the raised fist “black power” symbol. That didn’t seem to be offensive to the military brass.

The MEAT of all these fine articles are to be found in the RESPONSES to the articles!

Let’s share this stuff with “the folks” out there—as the long-mouthed hack daddy would say—forward this stuff to the four winds, post, email, etc. we may never know the good it has done, but we’ll know we are in there pushing!

That's all too often the case with ALL the professional media these days. I guess those of us on the internet are making their jobs too easy for them to bother with the information fill-ins.

Yep, gang tattoos are out for all of the military, and yes they can spot them a mile away. A friend of my son’s was recently turned down for having the ICP hatchet man tattooed on his chest, which according to police identifies one as a juggalo, which they consider to be a gang.

I like this part from Walter Williams. If he really said it.

Williams noted that the flag naturally symbolizes resentment for those individuals who see the War for Southern Independence solely or chiefly as a struggle for slavery.

“The idea that President Abraham Lincoln waged war against the South to abolish slavery is fiction created by the victors,” he explained. “Here’s an oft-repeated sentiment by President Lincoln: ‘I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the states where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so.’ Slavery simply emerged as a moral front for northern aggression.”

Williams explained that significant factors that led to the war included states’ rights and tariffs Congress enacted to protect Northern manufacturing interests. He also cited professor Edward Smith, director of American studies at American University, who has calculated that between 60,000 and 93,000 blacks served the Confederacy.

Just for $hits and Grits the Flag that flew on the Slave ships was the Stars and Strips not the Confederate Flag. Or maybe the NAALCP Flag.

Being a juggalo is prima facie evidence of being too stupid for military service. The tattoo just documents it semi-permanently.
