WASHINGTON The Pentagon says the U.S. maintains 5,113 nuclear warheads in its stockpile and "several thousand" more retired nukes that await dismantling. Monday's announcement marked the first time the Pentagon has officially disclosed the number. The U.S. has previously regarded such details as top secret. A senior defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, says the size of the stockpile represents a 75 percent reduction since 1989.

Mr. Obama, could you please tell the world exactly where each of these are and how they are guarded?

That seems like a lot. It seems like hardly any, to me.
We should have at least double that number, and we should be prepared to use them.

Always remember what the Commandant of the Corp said: If it doesn’t enhance our ability to kill the enemy, then why do it?
To: cowtowney
That seems like a lot. It must cost a buttload to maintain them and its dangerous.
Hiroshima = 166,000 Dead. (Highest estimate)
US Total Nukes = 5,113
Assuming similar kill ratio Maximum US strike casualties. = 845,758,000
Current Population of China. = 1.4 Billion
I consider the risk of a Chinese dictator knowing that his country can take our best shot and survive to be much more dangerous that the storage of nuclear weapons.

The Pentagon said the stockpile of 5,113 as of September 2009 represents a 75 percent reduction since 1989. In other words, since Reagan got on the helicopter and headed out for the ranch.
This is the result of having Democrats and their weak sister RINO counterparts in charge of our government ever since.

So can we disclose Obamas birth certificate now? Sorry, we have no standing. After the bombs go off we will also have no sitting.

each one of those warheads is far far more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb.
not to mention the effects of the fallout on survivors.

But as a deterrent, does 5000 nuclear weapons deter a Chines nuclear attack against the US or its allies?

Good Evening, Folks!
Let`s Play Jeopardy!
[Place the U.S. in Jeopardy, that is.]
The Answer Is: 5,113
The Question: How many times did Obummer bow to our enemies in 2010 so far?
To: Sawdring
I happen to think that the Chinese, like the Soviets/Russians, are very rational and therefore CAN be deterred. I’m not sure that the Iranian’s can be deterred. Ahmenijahd openly talks about creating the conditions for the return of the 12th Imam. He’s a fanatic.

Obama like many of his ilk believe in a sort of global egalitarianism among nations - by weakening the United States he feels he is somehow leveling the playing field with those weaker nations and our enemies.
He sees no wrong in what he is doing, while he will claim to love the United States the reality is that he sincerely believes that the US is the source of all the world's troubles.
He is worse that a traitor, he is the enemy within.
Throughout our nation's history individuals such as this would be executed for their crimes but in today's zeitgeist we have lost our way. As a nation and as a people we find ourselves no longer able to distinguish between right and wrong. All has become subjective.
You don't vote someone out of office like this, you remove them, physically if you have to. Sadly we are not at that stage yet and when we do reach that stage we will fight to the death brother against brother and neighbor against neighbor like we once before.
Like many of you, I never abandoned our Constitution, our nation and what we stand for, but the reality is that our nation has abandoned us.
