US says FL can't opt out (Of ObamaCare)
Health Florida News ^ | 4/24/10 | Carl Gentry

Only hours after the Florida House and Senate voted to “opt out” of the new federal health law, the top U.S. health official said Thursday night that will not be permitted.

Without mentioning any particular state or going into detail, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that state and local officials can vent all they want about a so-called “federal takeover” of health care. But they cannot deny their citizens access to its benefits or requirements, she told the Association of Health Care Journalists.

“They may want to opt out, but they don’t get to opt out all of their citizens who want and need health care,” Sebelius said.

Florida has an estimated 4 million uninsured, most of whom will be covered when the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) takes full effect in 2014.

At least 30 states have passed state constitutional amendment legislation similar to that approved by the Florida Legislature, according to theNational Conference of State Legislatures.

Sebelius said the backlash against the ACA has been ginned up by “misinformation,” much of it deliberate. Thus HHS will be setting up an Internet site to answer frequent questions and a toll-free helpline, similar to that operated for Medicare beneficiaries. HHS staff members present at the conference said they hope to have the Internet site up by July 1 and the help desk soon after.

I think they’re going to find the same thing with the clean water act as well.

Boy these clowns are pushing, aren’t they. They know the battle is coming to them legally, but they continue to be arrogant and act like they didn’t moon the electorate with the health insurance shore-up bill. When the voters slam them like a peregrin falcon hitting a rock dove (pigeon) from above in the 2010 and 2012 elections, reality of what they let Obama, Pelosi, and Reid do to them will finally set in, and maybe they won’t let such self-invested individuals do it to them again in the future. This current group of Democratic Senators and Represenatives are so easily swayed, that you wonder how they ever got there in the first place. I mean, come on, you can allow yourself to be caused to vote for garbage by the likes of them? Time for a real hope and change! Vote these clowns out.

The Civil War was about human rights! Not states rights.

Wow. Didn't know there were still folks around here that far behind.

>>> Yup. Unfortunatley, states’ rights got anihilated along with slavery as a result...

No they didn’t. The constitution was not altered as a result of the civil war repealing states rights.

The 10th amendment is still there.

Human rights trumps states rights, and were it not for the cause of abolishing slavery, I seriously doubt the north would have been willing to give up so much blood.

"Those who owned slaves in the south simply hid behind the states rights issue as legal justification for violating human rights."

And what is The Federal Government hiding behind to violate human rights now? Certainly not The Constitution.

I did not see this thank you

states fighting back is really ruining their take over plans right now.
I bet years ago that when they was planning this take over and getting bozo ready for his big day at the convention that they never thought states would stand up

“I’m getting tired of letting the women and the blacks run the show.”

I am just fine with women and blacks running the show, so long as the blacks are like Thomas Sowell and Justice Thomas, and the women are like Jeane Kirkpatrick and Michelle Bachman.

I will take them over white adult males such as BillClinton of George Herbert Walker Bush any day.

We’ll see if the 10th can be revived. While it is still in place, it has been a dead letter from Civil War days until today.

There is hope we can breath life back into it, though. What Florida, Arizona (on immigration), Missori (on guns), and a few other states are doing is a good start. Lots more to be done...
