Former house speaker Dan Webster made it official Thursday afternoon telling a crowd of about 200 supporters that he has the experience to take back Florida's 8th district for Republicans.

Former house speaker Dan Webster made it official Thursday afternoon telling a crowd of about 200 supporters that he has the experience to take back Florida's 8th district for Republicans. "Today I'm declaring my candidacy for the United States Congress," Webster said to an eruption of cheers.

Politicians in Washington have "cast aside the principles that have made this country great," Webster said.

He talked about "lower taxes and individual freedom" and restoring "integrity" to Washington but made no mention of Alan Grayson, the controversial Democrat who currently occupies the seat.

Speaking with reporters after the announcement, Webster said the concerns of his family initially kept him out of the race.

"Once we had a unified family, I got in," he said.

Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty was on hand promising his full support for Webster's campaign.

Former Governor Jeb Bush and former vice presidential candidate Mike Huckabee both wrote endorsements that were read to the crowd.

So he throws his hat in the ring TODAY along with endorsements from Jeb Bush and Huckabee TODAY? Wow! Wonder how long this move has been in the works!

Well, I for one among many, will be supporting Lt.Comdr.Dan Fanelli in the Republican primary to face Grayson in November! Dan is bran new to politics but he is a true constitutional conservative and has leadership experience to boot. The more folks who get to know him, the more join in to support Dan Fanelli!

It’s best at the candidate’s announcement that he be the biggest star on the stage. Jeb would be the issue if he were there.

Frankly I have no favorite, but Sen. Webster, the first GOP House Speaker since Reconstruction and former Senate leader has been a major conservative leader for 30 years. The organized support from state leaders looks preemptive.

I am sure Webster is popular. However, an immediate endorsement from Mike Huckabee and Jeb Bush means this has been in the works for a while.

We all know the voters in District 8 will be the ones who decide. I hope they choose wisely.

My two favorite constitutional conservative candidates right are Dan Fanelli in District 8 and Allen West in District 22. I can't vote for them from District 10 but sure can support them with my donations!
