Volcano Spews More Ash, Spawns Wider Flight Chaos

Associated Press Writer Paisley Dodds
4-17-2010

LONDON – A lingering volcanic ash plume forced extended no-fly restrictions over much of Europe on Saturday, as Icelandic scientists warned that volcanic activity had increased and showed no sign of abating — a portent of more travel chaos to come.

Scientists say that because the volcano is situated below a glacial ice cap, the magma is being cooled quickly, causing explosions and plumes of grit that can be catastrophic to plane engines if prevailing winds are right.

"The activity has been quite vigorous overnight, causing the eruption column to grow," Icelandic geologist Magnus Tumi Gudmundsson told The Associated Press on Saturday. "It's the magma mixing with the water that creates the explosivity. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an end in sight."

An expansive cloud of grit hovered over parts of western Europe on Saturday, triggering extended flight bans that stranded people around the globe. Continued volcanic activity could produce more plumes if the weather patterns stay the same.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office said the amount of ash in the plume grew Saturday and that the vast ash cloud is continuing to travel south and southeast. Scientists had planned to fly over the volcano to see how much ice has melted to determine how much longer the eruption could spew ash, but the Icelandic Coast Guard said Saturday's flight had been postponed.

"If this continues or gets worse (Katla blows, etc, toxic gas plume to europe,, not just ash) the entire north Atlantic basin is gonna look like Dunkirk"

The moment I hear that Katla is stiring, I will spend $10,000 on storeable food. If Katla erupts, there will be a shortage of food worldwide and what food is availabe would be unaffordable...the government would probably take over food distribution...imagine that.

INDEED.

No one.

MANY prophetic sources assert that a LOT of volcanoes are going to be lit off in the NOT distant future—many from very unexpected locales.

Certainly there’s many 100’s if not thousands of undersea volcanoes going constantly now, as I understand it.

"My son is suppose to fly to Europe on Manday. ANy chance they’ll be flying by then?"

I'd bet against it.

Same as plan A: Blame capitalism, increase taxes, institute socialism. Will it help? Nope. Not at all. But then again, nothing could. These forces are WAY beyond humans’ puny abilities to effect.

Things like volcanoes cause cooling because of the thick cloud preventing heat from reaching the earth.....

At the same time, it's a huge fireplace...

Another amazing God thing....

GREAT QUESTION.

What IS plan B?

Tunnel homes under ash?

So, . . . uhhh . . . where’d the food crops be?

I’ve been having fun posting this is the fault of global warming, just when I thought it couldn’t be more absurd or the warmists couldn’t be less informed, I find this article at the top of Yahoo news: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100416/wl_nm/us_iceland_volcano_climate

I know it is financially troubling to a lot of folks and I’m sorry for that but I have to admit I’m sort of loving this story. Sorry.

"So whatever happened to Don Morgan?"

I don't know.

SunkenCiv manages the catastrophism ping list though.

My son’s flight to London was cancelled yesterday and today.
It is April school vacation in New England and my son and 5 other eighth graders with their teachers and 2 parents were going to London for 6 days. They may go this summer.

Hope your son can go. But from what I have read, it seems unlikely.

Might not be a bad idea to start now, for long term canned goods. History seems to indicate that Katla always follows this one.

Not to mention the seemingly continuous activity in Baha, and what could mean for the west coast

and Lord help us if the Yellowstone area wakes up. If that happens it will devastate the US.

LOL, I have been watching too much of the Discovery Channel
