Pit maverick Republican Congressman Ron Paul against President Obama in a hypothetical 2012 election match-up, and the race is virtually dead even.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of likely voters finds Obama with 42% support and Paul with 41% of the vote. Eleven percent (11%) prefer some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided.
Ask the Political Class, though, and its a blowout. While 58% of Mainstream voters favor Paul, 95% of the Political Class vote for Obama.
But Republican voters also have decidedly mixed feelings about Paul, who has been an outspoken critic of the party establishment.
Obama earns 79% support from Democrats, but Paul gets just 66% of GOP votes. Voters not affiliated with either major party give Paul a 47% to 28% edge over the president.
Paul, a anti-big government libertarian who engenders unusually strong feelings among his supporters, was an unsuccessful candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008. But he continues to have a solid following, especially in the growing Tea Party movement.

If crazy were sheik, self promotion and the ability to annoy the public to the point of wanting to punch his lights out were a qualification to be president, Ron Paul would be serving his fifth term.

But if there’s not a ‘truth about Ron Paul’ website, there needs to be!
I personally think they are trying to force a 3 way race to split the conservative vote.
*****************
There is a good chance of success for them with this - both getting it arranged and profiting by the results. Obama would win with a plurality, as Clinton did both times.
“Unless the RNC and the party come to their senses, we might just end up with yet another loserMitt Romney or Ron Paul. Because they absolutely refuse to get their act together and get behind any decent conservative candidates.”
We have a LOT to say and do about this.
I think there should be some sort of respectful reach out to the Ron Paul voters to bring them into the fold of reason.

You are right.
Maybe ‘Paulites for Palin’ will return the favor of her backing Rand.
“but his [Ron Paul’s] message is more spot on than anything I have ever heard from O Bummer.”
That’s not saying much...
Put Sarah 1 on 1 with Romney and have no doubt that she’d win. Even throw in 3% for the moonbat Paulistas and she’d still win. My fear is that if you put in an asshat like Huckabee, he would pull off the economic populists who would otherwise go to Sarah and he’d end up doing for Romney in 2012 the same Judas Goat role for which he served McCain in 2008.
Palin would never fall for that. Paul’s ego might.
We’ll vote for ANYTHING else....
whose foreign policy is political malpractice, is someone I will never vote for.
Ron Paul’s strength is that the average voter doesn’t know much about him beyond that he’s reputed to be a constitutionalist and is known as Congressman No - which is what the people are looking for right now. The average voter, however, doesn’t know how whacko he is on foreign policy matters, nor some of his other oddities.
Ron Paul’s weakness is that the average Republican primary voter, who tends to be much more informed, won’t let him get past 5%.
also, I don’t want a cephalopod
Despite Ronald Minimus Paulus’ inclusion in this article it is very useful.
The hated W Bush is only down 48-46 to this loser.
That means anybody can beat Obama. This is why we need the most credible and most conservative candidate we have.
true ‘nuf - the numbers are encouraging
Dumbest Rasmussen poll eva! C’mon Scott, you’re losing your mojo.
Also from the poll — The poll shows Obama topping Romney 53 percent to 45 percent, beating Huckabee 54 percent to 45 percent, defeating Gingrich 55 percent to 43 percent and topping Palin 55 percent to 42.
So remember, supporting any of these losers — RomneyCare, Huckster, Newt, Palin — is the same thing as supporting Obama!
Only Paul can beat Usurper Barry in an election.
The only two alternatives to get rid of ‘bammy are now:
1. Removal due to his multiple nationalities and ineligibility to serve at all.
2. Support Ron Paul 2012.
He has a public track record going back nearly 40 years. Name a gov't-caused problem we're having now, & there's text of a speech out there that he gave years ago, attacking the program that caused it and predicting the problem that was going to occur.
Don't believe anything posted about him here - find out for yourself.
Dr. Paul draws very strong reactions from people... people like me, who know what he is and what he stands for, love him.
As far as the Paul-haters go, I'd bet that most, if not all of them, are sucking at the gov't teat in one way or another and are very worried about someone like Dr. Paul cutting them off, and/or they are just now realizing that the Iraq/Afghanistan mess they supported were big mistakes, and hate him for being right about it from day one.
