Polish president dies in air crash
A plane carrying Lech Kaczynski, the Polish president, has crashed near Smolensk airport in western Russia, killing all on board, Russian officials have reported.
Polish officials confirmed on Saturday that Kaczynski was on board the flight with his wife, as well as Slawomir Skrzypek, the president of Poland's central bank, Andrzej Kremer, the deputy foreign minister and the army chief of staff.
The crash occurred about 1.5km from Smolensk airport in foggy conditions.
Neither am I. I merely stated that, at least in my life experience, a coincidence is not a coincidence 50% of the time.
On April 3, 1996, while on an official trade mission, the Air Force CT-43 (a modified Boeing 737) carrying Brown and 34 other people, including New York Times Frankfurt Bureau chief Nathaniel C. Nash, crashed in Croatia. While attempting an instrument approach to Čilipi airport, the airplane crashed into a mountainside. Everyone aboard was killed instantly except Air Force Tech. Sgt. Shelley Kelly, a flight attendant, who died while being transported to a hospital.[2] The final Air Force investigation attributed the crash to pilot error and a poorly designed landing approach.[3] Speculations as to the circumstances surrounding the plane crash that caused Brown's death include many government cover-up and conspiracy theories, largely based on Brown having been under investigation by independent counsel for corruption[4].(source)

Visual Flight Rules would have been out of the question, and it would be pretty impossible to fly under IFR on a plane that was over 40 years old.

No I didn’t see it. It is a strange take on it though. Doesn’t Poland fly into Russia on a regular basis? It would seem so, but perhaps they don’t.
Wow... Glad you mentioned it, Lexinom. I wasn’t aware of that crash and the conspiracies around it.
Regardless, I guess guarded suspicion would be natural in this case... Honestly, the Kremlin should accept no less — they’ve earned being treated with suspicion, IMHO.
Thunder90: It’s not just me who is suspicious of this crash. I would love to know your take on the matter. My first thoughts - besides shock and grief, frankly - were why were so many officials on the same plane at the same time to RUSSIA from POLAND? It wasn’t that long ago that this President was standing up against the Kremlin re: Georgia, and RIGHT NOW their ally - us (the US) - is facing Russia pressuring us re: the airbase in Kyrgyzstan via the “new gov’t” of Russian loyal separatists.
I would not have made this plane so “target-rich” to begin with, and I guess it just adds to my natural suspicions. However, as others have stated — the plane and the weather WERE a factor and there were witnesses to the crash.
BTW, I agree with your viewpoint on this.
Given the state of affairs these days the crash is ripe for speculation. I wouldn't classify the speculation as conspiracy theories, but I do understand what you are saying.

That’s the conclusion I’m coming to. No matter what happens from here on out there will always be a question in my mind.
Hard to not have suspicion given the timing coincidence (?) of having the Obama regime dismantling the USA into a communist being, his disdain for Israel and Poland’s growing democracy & prosperity...
I would personally put that percentage a bit higher, but that is just me... I don’t believe a heck of a lot in coincidence, but that is me...

I’m going to have to go back through the postings and read what’s been said, but why is Obama being mentioned? Yeah, he probably doesn’t like Poland all that much, but do you think Russia is doing Obama’s bidding or something? I HIGHLY doubt THAT! Sorry if I’m off-base... Will go read back through your posts.

Both Poland and Russia are conducting a JOINT investigation and if not now will soon be on the ground of this accident.
This will likely give a balanced conclusion...also they do have the “black boxes” from the plane.
Russia so far as done what any country would do to accomodate and show their remorse. Both the Pres. and Putin went to the chuch and lit candles etc. So diplomatically and politically they are doing the norm. Day of national mourning has been set and Russia has eased it’s visa etc. rewuirements for the family members to arrive in Russia...
I believe this was clearly an accident until otherwise evidenced. Though the pilot was encouraged to land at another airport for the foggy conditions etc. it is normal pilots make the final determination.
They also said the plane was loosing fuel before it landed which is why there was not more fire than there was.
