Volcker: Taxes likely to rise eventually to tame deficit
NEW YORK (Reuters) - The United States should consider raising taxes to help bring deficits under control and may need to consider a European-style value-added tax, White House adviser Paul Volcker said on Tuesday.

0 wants to make sure the pool of seniors is included in his tax revenue grab. He couldn’t do it with just increasing taxes on wages. VAT covers everybody!

Instead of bailing faster, how about we patch the hole in the boat? Reduce spending on programs the government has no business being in, and no Constitutional authority to be in.

Thanks to all posters and a BIG THANKS to hinckley buzzard. I'm so sick of the statists that every one of them could eat xhit and die. Life would then tremendously improve for all of us.
Over the short term, they do reduce the deficit. The economic impact is delayed a few years, and by then they’ve turned it over to the REpublican to take the blame.
Or maybe we can fire 50% of the federal work force, eliminate HUD and the Department of Education, and a few others useless drone factories and get a better result all around!

Not to beat a dead horse since dozens of posters said it before me but . .. . CUT FREAKIN SPENDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not later. Not in combination with tax increases. Not cut the rate of increase. Not cut it as adjusted for inflaction. Just Cut Spending. If its $100 this year, cut it to $90 next year. Volker is a smart guy and yet his trapped by the same groupthink as everyone else in Washington. Maybe it is time for a Revolution.
