Our little Nesmo puppy(Half maltese, half Pomeranian) he just started barking after me and my Mom started making a ruckus, but Maxie(Who is a shih tzu) just laid there in the living room right next to the cabinet, so I went and moved him out of the way, he would not move..did not care, a bomb could blow and Maxie would just lie there and sleep, he’s only 4 but sometimes acts like an old man..
Yep, all our dogs care about is barking, food, and walks, especially Nemo, if you say “Are you hungry” he goes nuts..oh and chasing cats too, and birds

I remember the 1994 Northridge earthquake as if it happened yesterday. Soon as I heard about it(while at work)I’m on the phone trying to call by buddy that lived out there at the time. No luck w/land or cell lines. His brother who lived in Minneapolis calls me to see if maybe I got through. From there I think it was 6 hours before I got through and they were like it was no big deal, which made me laugh my ass of cause he had just moved out there.....

Maybe protecting the big screen tv with your body isn’t THE best plan, but I read years ago that in a quake, you should position yourself next to a large surfaced, heavy piece of furniture, like a desk or bed. There is (according to the article) something in the physics of how things collapse in an earthquake that the falling objects seek a large object to fall onto, and the areas around it remain clear.
I sent the article to my daughter when she moved to Japan. Now she has the info available in SF.

Wikipedia is (uncharacteristically for engineering/science) not very talkative. All it says is that the rupture propagation speed exceeds the S-wave velocity, creating an analogy to a sonic boom.
So does that imply one has a propagating "shock wave" ? Which confuses me, what are the relevant state variables for the ground, which would suffer a discontinuity -- and how would the "shock" differ from the ordinary S and P waves?
