Gay and lesbian couples who share a home may identify one another as "husband or wife" on their 2010 census forms if that's how they view their relationship — even if they have not legally married in any of the places where it is allowed.
And whatever they say on that form is precisely how the government will count them.
Advocates who have long sought a complete count of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community say this falls short but is still a partial breakthrough — one they say offers tacit acknowledgment of the very relationships the federal government legally denies.

Why send the form in if it’s going to be filled out incorrectly. Sounds like they are doing this to be able to count a person as a different sex, etc regardless of what they really are.
I am beginning to wonder if the smart train left these people at the gate.

This violates the 14th Amendment. As the Boston Globe found out when it tried to offer benefits to Gay couples that were living together. But not Straight couples. Why not just count Gays in the Census so we can get the true number of their population?
Because then we would also have to count chess players, auto mechanic hobbyists, back woods hikers etc and every other practicer of a chosen behavior.
The constitution does not segregate people by behavior. Only by age and sex.
The main point of the census is to say who lives where, the government probably doesn’t care if they check husband or wife, they’ll just count it as part of “X People live in this area”, along with everyone else.

I was ready to do something subversive, but realized they asked fewer questions than they asked my ancestors in the 1800’s. They didn’t even ask about the bathrooms, like usual.
On tonight’s news they showed people of mixed race filling out the forms. Some were checking a box for each origin they happened to have. One checked four boxes. I wonder if the gov’t will count him as four people.
