Having insurance 'going to be like Christmas'

DURHAM, N.C. — Uninsured Triangle residents said Monday that they eagerly await the overhaul of the nation's health care system. "It's just going to be like Christmas," said DeCarlo Flythe, who lost health coverage for his family when he was laid off almost three years ago. "It's going to be great. You know, no worries (about) the bills. We are going to go ahead and pay our co-pay and be alright."

...just be a mediocre employee (not bad so you end up fired for cause) and your likely to get “laid off” and find yourself on the government gravy train.

I have been laid off from the top of the payroll and the bottom. New hires and top hands go first.

My last layoff, I was at the top of the stack, with my work bringing in a third or more of the company's gross revenue. The boss blew a sales call, lost the contract, and because I was also at the top of the payroll, I got the axe.

If prospective employers are paying attention, sometimes the folks who got laid off were among the best employees in their company, but too expensive to keep when the cut came. While mediocre employees can do an adequate job in most circumstances for a better bottom line (because they are cheaper), if you want the guy who can improve efficiency, and has the experience to deal with adverse or unusual circumstances or developments, then quality counts. In the oil industry, that can make the difference between poor to disastrous results and a great well.

I'm going back into the business with my own company now, starting out for the same client I was doing work for when I got laid off--without a middleman.

In the meantime, I have worked for a couple of employers at temporary positions, one good, one not so much, but I never drew out all my unemployment because it just would not pay the bills--despite owing little and cutting our budget in half.

It isn't any gravy train if you have any responsibilities, and at my former pay grade represented an 85% pay cut. Maybe if you own nothing, live in mom's basement, and don't have any kids in your venue it would be OK, but not for me.

“Obama getting elected because he was going to pay her mortgage and buy her gas. Ask her how that worked out.”

He may BE paying her mortgage, and giving lots of money to her and her ilk, for all we know. Aren’t there a lot of missing stimulus dollars? More likely though, they are in an account overseas for when zer0 is “tired” of deeming to play POTUS.

You’re exactly right, but the public doesn’t seem to have a clue. They think without health insurance no one can get health care. The Republicans should have been hammering this home and I haven’t heard them mention it.

Of course I'm right. I tell the truth. I'm the truthguy.

But on a serious note we have a real problem with economics education in the United States. I had a great teacher of Civics and Economics in High School and took a couple of years of Economics in college although I was an Engineering Major. Most liberals have no economics education. When arguing with them I began to notice a constant theme in there arguments. They simply didn't understand basic economics. That goes for Obama big time and most of the clowns in his administration.

I'm waiting for the reaction from the white liberal college kid who thinks he's going to get a free ride, only to find out that he's going to have to pay like everyone else, or face stiff penalties and possible jail time. A lot of people are going to get a rude awakening, and it's not going to be pretty when it happens...

No not for them but for us it will be one heck of a laugh. And they will scream...I just think it's hysterical. One of the earlier posters on this thread that somebody canceled their doctor appt and rescheduled for Friday..so his pre-exist will be covered. Unbelievable!

If I had to make a choice to spend my money on life saving treatment for my Dog or one of those Traitors that voted for this fiasco, I would have one happy puppy running around the house.

Got that straight

On the radio today, some college kid made the remark that he doesn't have to work to get health insurance because it's free. Is he in for the shock of his life. I'm tellin' ya, you can't make this stuff up.

Was that College Kid an Art Major? Queen Nancy proclaimed that he didn't have to work, so it must be true.

Do these idiots realize that there won't be any subsidized premiums until 2014, and even then, if they make more than $30,000 per year they will be REQUIRED to pay around $5,000 annually or face a $795 fine (which will go up every year)?

Why doesn't he do that now? United Healthcare N.C. offers a high-deductible ($6,000) policy for $215/month ($4,000,000 catastrophic coverage). There are many other individual plans. what's stopping him?

I took my older dog to the vet this morning without an appointment or insurance. Cost $140 total. I discovered that she has leukemia and that I could get chemotherapy for her but the prognosis isn’t good. So I play death panel and decided I’ll keep her comfortable for as long as I can.

I am truly sorry to hear that, neighbor.

Long ago, and far away, on one of those dead worlds trailing behind me, I hunted men with this old boy:

Then he got canine leukemia.

Looking back, I wish I had put him to sleep, and spared him the suffering he endured.

Mind you, I'm not saying that's what you should do- only you can decide.

I just wish I'd given my partner mercy, while he was still somewhat able to enjoy life- it's a hard disease.

So sorry to hear. It’s such a heartbreaking thing to endure. We lost our dog of 11 years two years ago in similar circumstances.

I had to turn the radio off this morning. They had a lady on who was all excited she could get her surgery...etc.

The whole time she was talking I kept thinking...this doesn’t take effect until 2014, but you start paying TODAY for it.

Get used to waiting for your health care. Of course, you know there will be a push to get this up and running before 2014.
