Mad About Obamacare? Blame Bush
By Philip Klein on 3.21.10 @ 11:27PM

They did it.

Despite an overwhelming public backlash and the likely political ramifications, Democrats cut deals and twisted arms and got the votes they needed, winning by a 219 to 212 margin. While the reconciliation process still remains, it’s a sideshow at this point. The United States is a presidential signature away from having national health care.

Suffice it to say, as somebody who has spent the past year working to expose the devastating consequences of this legislation and who values individual liberty, this is a sad day. And I’m working on a longer piece right now for tomorrow’s site about the ongoing fight against its provisions, which just got a lot harder. But as upset as I am, I can’t pin the blame entirely on Democrats.

The reason is that by passing this bill, liberal Democrats were just doing what liberal Democrats do – raising taxes and expanding the role of government in our lives. Liberals have been working for decades to impose national health care on America. It’s been their Holy Grail. It should have been apparent to everybody that once they took over Congress and the presidency that it would be their top domestic priority. All of the leading Democratic presidential candidates proposed health care plans roughly along the lines of what passed today.

The question conservatives should be asking though, is how did we get in this position in the first place? How come, over the course of two elections, Democrats were able to take back the White House and amass substantial majorities in both chambers of Congress, allowing them to enact this sweeping legislation with no Republican votes – and huge defections in their own party?

The blame belongs to the right that kept surrendering each slice to the left. They surrendered education to them, the press. They surrendered and allowed the infiltration of every institution by the left. In the name of civility they backed off at every turn and brought noodles to a gun fight. They played by the queensbury rules and the left played schoolyard no rules fisticuffs. This is the result of fifty years of surrender and compromise in the name of peace. Instead of proselytizing back we allowed them to control the debate assuming the people were smart enough to understand the intellectual superiority of the conservative argument. This is what you get. They promoted their ideology with religious fervor and we simply played to the conservative crowd. We should have been trying to convert the rest of the masses. Instead of importing foreign ideas we should have been exporting ours. Whatever resistance we put up is too little too late. From here on it’s an uphill battle. 2010 may well be the last election conservatives ever win, because we think in the short term while the left has been preparing this day for the last fifty years. It’s a coup d’etat and it was carried in broad daylight without firing a shot..

Bush was not a good leader, not doubt. He shares the blame for being a pushover domestically.

Bush, not a good leader? Now I've heard everything.

McCain is a freaking loser RINO without equal but I think he wouldn’t have done anything as tyrannical as *this*.

Are you saying cap-and-trade isn't as tyrannical as Obamacare?

The commies have been infiltrating every aspect of our society for the last century. The blame lies squarely with the citizens of the USA. Reagan may have facilitated the destruction of the Soviet Union, but, we have never stopped the communist cancer growing in our own back yard.

We have sat on our lazy asses and allowed every sacred institution in this country to be controlled and dominated by these filthy pigs. We are now reaping the whirlwind.

To blame Bush is a joke. He was only a product of a very decadent society that has refused to vote, refused to attend school board meetings, refused to get involved with their elected officials, refused to raise their own children, refused to curb their own insatiable appetites for self-agrandizing narcissism, and, without one iota of conscience, allowed the murder of millions of babies. And, they will think nothing of killing off millions of elderly and infirmed when they think they may have to pay for their care.

I could go on; but, I think you recognize who is really responsible for the destruction of this country. Obama is commie loser and the American people helped produce him and they put him in office. The water came to a boil, however, way before Bush and Obama.

God Help Us...

George W. Bush was never able to accomplish his dream of providing amnesty for all illegal aliens.

Yet most people on FR are still carrying water for George W.

“Over the course of two elections”?

Hardly! Try the marginalization of Senator McCarthy, and the resultant crippling of the House Unamerican Activities Commission, as confirmed by the Venona Transcripts. Ever since, the termites have been chewing away at the heartwood, to where the only thing keeping up the semblance of the shell are the faded hopes and dreams of a mal-educated polity.

My father brought me here for freedom - where do I send my child?

If you want someone to blame, Look in the mirror. Yes the Republicans squandered 8 years of control of Congress. Yes the Conservatives were too busy working, paying taxes, paying the mortgage, building families and sending off to schools that were controlled by Socialists who are failing our children in providing an adequate education. And yes some voted for "hope and change" in the last election. So now the picture is complete. The Socialists want to control all aspects of our lives, teach our children social experiments in sex and how rotten this country really is backed up by text books that ignore this country's history because it is too hard to teach.

So we can roll over and play dead and collect the free government housing, obama food coupons, and wait to die under government health care or we can take our country back.

What is done is done. We can fight and get control of our schools and universities, libraries, local school boards. We can run for local elected offices, state offices and national offices. We have to change things. We have been silent too long and if we continue to be silent then we will get run over just like we did this evening with the Nationalization of Health Care which amounts to 18% of our economy.

We should fight with everything we have to restore this country to its greatness, fiscal soundness and position in the world as a fair arbitrator on sound footing. We must do these things or the Socialists and Communists will take the remaining freedoms we have and flush them.

It is time for the silent majority to become the driving force in this country again. We have to become involved and vocal at all levels of government. Remember no political office is to small or insignificant to have an affect on the lives of those around you. This is the only was to beat back the Socialists and Communists and restore America to its greatness.

This is pure BS. Blame obama and his cartel, the dumbing down of our education system and the kiss a$$ media. I am getting really tired of people blaming everything on President GW Bush.

Get rid of Geraldo FOX if you want to keep your ratings.

That’s a good question. I’m not sure I have an answer. They’re both very negative for our nation. No doubt about that. While they might not be totally equal in the devastation they would cause, I think it’s fair to say they are both of roughly the same caliber. They are devastating.

In 2008, we were screwed no matter what we did.

What scares me is the mindset I’m seeing around here, that it just isn’t all that important that Conservatives do everything they can to boot this guy from office.

Man, if someone can’t see the need to boot this guy, just don’t come bitching to me anymore about RINOs in Congress. If not now when?

If it’s any consolation to you, I expect people are going to have a whole new look at what amnesty would imply. They may not be able to see three steps ahead, but two is much easier. McCain will lose the primary, much to Sarah Palin’s relief. I don’t know what would suffice to “kick him out” prior to November.

I was surprised to hear their primary down there is held late in the year, something like August. I wish he was off the ballot next month.

I sure hope you’re right, he is defeated in the primary. If I implied I wanted him out before November, I mis-spoke. I envision him leaving at the end of the year at the earliest.

While that won’t be early enough for me, I’ll bear up under it. ;-)

I’ve heard the idea lofted that he might switch parties if he is taken out in the primary. Evidently the Democrats haven’t been launching a strong opponent against him in the past, and it wouldn’t be all that hard for him to pull that off.

One of the people from Arizona explained their process to me last year. I believe I’ve got it about right.

Unless the Rat primary is later than the Pub primary, his switching parties would not be able to garner him re-election. Now maybe if he moves to another, very blue state.
