...what has been clear throughout this extraordinary historic debate was that Congressman Bart Stupak was a faithful Catholic and a faithful Pro-Life DEMOCRATIC Congressman who refused to compromise on the first priniciples.
He has always supported the Health Care Reform package. He is, after all, a Democrat. He simply refused to compromise on the fundamental human rights issue of our age, the Right to Life. For that, he should be honored and thanked by all Pro-Life people.Even if he is wrong.
I was not surprised when he made his announcement. He was surrounded by other Pro-Life Democrats who had made the same decision with him.
He spoke of the "greement we have been able to reach" with the President. That agreement entails the issuing of what he called an "extensive" Executive order by the President immediately upon the passage of this legislation. He honestly believes that with this Executive Order, the current Hyde Amendment language will be protected in the law. He is confident that this Executive Order will ensure that the fatal flaw with this legislation, clearly set forth by the US Bishops, which undermined the fundamental Human Right to Life, will be cured. As a Constitutional lawyer, I strongly doubt it. Though I live in Virginia, I am, to use the old adage I'm from Missouri, show me!
I do not agree with this legislation for many important procedural, constitutional and substantive reasons. However, the first and fundamental reason I opposed it was that it DID indeed open up Federal funds for the killing of innocent children. If it did not, why is the President of the United States signing an Executive Order to cure the Bill?

I agree with you and that is why I think that the Church should excommunicate all Democrats. I think the Church should give a one month warning stating that if a Democrat does not change or drop his or her party affiliation within one month the person will be excommunicated from the Catholic Church. It is impossible to be a true Catholic and be a Democrat.
Thanks philly. I think many of our Bishops are too trusting. Obama threatened the Hyde Amendment which should have been a warning yet they continued to trust him. Jesus said he was sending us as lambs among the wolves and we must think like serpents. Our Bishops don’t think like serpents.

Not trying to hijack, but that was my suggestion about the money. There will be several democrats voting against, and I still think the best chance we have (had) to convince them to vote no was a more civil tone.
In all, I made that offer to three representatives, including Judas himself. I don’t think I’ll be donating much this week.

I agree with you. The Catholic Church has been infiltrated. Read Malachi Martin’s ‘Keys of This Blood’ which is all about that. The Protestant Church has also been infiltrated by Satan - to our shame.
Amnesty for illegals is not a religious issue, abortion is. The Catholic Church is strongly apposed to abortion, and abortion is part of the Democratic platform. I am not going to get into a Catholic good Protestant bad, Protestant good Catholic bad argument. Nether position interests me at this time. The only thing that interests me is preventing government funded abortion, and preventing the liberal takeover of our Country.
Congressman Bart Stupak is a faithful Catholic. He is also wrong.Congressman Bart Stupak has at least "limited the harm" done by this Legislation. He has "lessened its negative consequences". He has acted in a faithful way as a faithful Catholic Christian in public life. For that he should be commended. Even if, like me, you disagree with his ultimate decision.I disagree.
