Despite reports on MSNBC that pro-life Democrat Bart Stupak, D-Mich., will vote for the bill, he remains a "no" vote.
I just talked to Stupak in the basement of the Capitol as he walked passed a throng of protesters calling for members to vote against the bill.
"I'm still a no vote. There is no final agreement." Stupak said.
Stupak and other pro-life Democrats are in negotiations with the White House on a deal that would involve President Obama signing some kind of executive order that would ban federal funding of abortion under the health care bill.
"We are waiting until we have an agreement with not just the White House but also the Speaker and others," Stupak said. "There is no agreement. It's still a work in progress. I think we have work to do. "
If he is still a firm NO why are the internets reporting he has reached an agreement with the boy king?
I’ve been emailing, phoning and blogging my ass off. The Media is all over the place
President Obama signing some kind of executive order that would ban federal funding of abortion under the health care bill.
Not worth the paper it would be printed on.
keep up the pressure
Good grief. I warned that MSNBC could be wrong! I hope he remains a ‘no.’
There's no doubt about that.
But he apperently wants a deal with the Speaker "and others" first.
I suspect he got the promise from the WH but knows that will be defunct unless the Speaker promises to help uphold that EO somehow later.
But if she gives that promise, will DeGette bolt?
Ditto!
The list, ping
There is a special kind of evil that exists in people like Stupak. He pretends to be pro-life, but he wants to vote yes, AND he knows who he is in bed with. He should either call himself pro-choice, or quit the party. They don’t want his kind except to trick people.
Maybe she doesn’t think she needs his vote that badly.
We shall see if she was just telling the truth shortly. Conflicting reports on Stupak having agreement
I am thinking it is their way of building up drama and when they get it - they’ll claim a big victory for Obama. I am so sick of our children’s futures being treated like some end run football game. :-(
Once the bill is passed, the executive order might be sound enough to wipe a dab of excrement off of the ones ass. (Rumor is he is using his left hand and a can of water these days, When he shakes hands with people he wipes off his left hand on their right arms and elbows.).
Dont give up yet.
Don’t start name calling because of miss information.
Just wait. For Stupak this is an abortion issue. He will stand for the unborn.
I know because I worked for Stupaks first campaign when it was him or the pro-choice, pro-gun control rino named Ziggler. The first and only dem I have ever volunteered for.
I know the man. He will not cave on abortion. He will go for Health Care (because he is a dem) if they remove the abortion funding. If the funding stays in, Bart will stay out and he will vote no to health care.
My family and friends have given me lots of grief about helping to get him elected, I can only pray that God knew what was coming and has Bart there for this reason!
Do we have a time line of this? I am reading he is a “no” then another saying he is a yes with an EO involved.
I mentioned this up thread, but the Senate Bill, in its current state and even with the continued enforcement of the Hyde Amendment, will still provide federal money to pay for abortions. How? Because this H.R. 3590 includes provisions that will allow for subsidies to be paid to people to help them (meaning, pay for entirely) their private health care insurance.
This EO specifically states that it's not to be taken as a prohibition on subsidies paid to private insurers who offer as part of their coverage, elective abortions. And, neither the Hyde Amendment, H.R. 3590 nor this EO disallows federal funds to be paid to state health care plans that cover elective abortions.
It's complete smoke and mirrors. The great lion's share of new people getting health care coverage are going to be getting private insurance paid for by public money - your tax money, and my tax money.
I suspect that there's a pack of the Stupak bunch who will vote the way he does.
We're talking a couple very necessary votes.
